This is now such a key topic with regards this country's future relationship with the EU that I considered prefixing the heading with 'Core Topic'. However as far as this Forum is a concerned it is a 'Question' and I hope we have nothing other that constructive comments as the thread builds up with ideas and contributions.
As a starter here is Richard North's recent take on the dangers of a simple In or Out Referendum and the need for the whole issue of our extraction from the many tentacles of the EU to be addressed and planned for.
EU Referendum: The facts of (political) life
This is an area in which UKIP could clearly take a lead but sadly I doubt Nigel Farage has the inclination or the abiltiy to lead the National debate on this vital question.
Over to Forum members to debate and discuss this topic which is so important to our national interest.
North is very good at making a who page out of nothing....
All that over trade and problem on it.
How do chinese good get into the EU?
How do US goods get into the EU?
How do indian goods get into the EU?
from what north says they dont as there is no ports to check them.
Or dont they have to be checked?
This is the Genius North you keep promoting..?
LOL
I'm an avid/daily reader of the above blog. I think that he over complicates the issue, but I do take his point in that a straight in/out vote will be slanted in such a way that it will frighten people into voting 'in', for fear of the unknown.
Farage will do sweet FA. Farage has gone native and enjoys his 400 Euro a day expense allowance on top of his salary and all his other allowances. He makes no attempt to make progress at Westminster and get MPs elected, and nothing that he does or says in Brussels will help us get out of the EU.
Still falling off your horse Gothmog I see!!
The point is China, USA and India have agreements in place to trade with the EU.
If we left the EU tomorrow we would not which is why one of the essential Exit and Survival Strategies E&SS is that we need to negotiate a phased withdrawal.
In reality, as I see it, the time scale for a comprehensive and workable E&SS would see a very few things implemented straight away, the majority within 5 years and completed after about 10 years.
For you to ridicule Richard North really does expose you as a pure trouble maker with little to no substance.
The blog says:
"That is all very good – but let's have a look at that real world, a world in which Britain is not a member of the EU, and has not yet negotiated a trade deal."
But UKIP say:
"Withdraw from the political EU Superstate, and maintain a trade-based relationship with our European neighbours using a Swiss-style free trade agreement as the EU’s largest single trading partner."
The biggest failing of UKIP is that they don't make this very clear. I still hear them telling us that "only" 15% of UK trade is with Europe. Not very convincing...they should try reading their own policy information.
LOL
North even gets himself mixed up.
From the link
In that real world, the Customs Union that is the European Union permits the free movement of goods within its borders. But at the periphery, it has inspection points at designated ports, where goods are examined and checked before they are allowed entry into the EU area – the so-called Single Market area. No goods are allowed entry without checking and inspection.
See here he says himself that there ARE ports where goods from outside the EU are checked.
bUt then goes onto say UK goods could not get in as there are not any ports and they need building....
I'm disappointed that this vital topic has not attracted more comments so here are a few off the wall thoughts I've had as to the considerations that are essential to produce a workable and realistic E&SS.
EXIT AND SURVIVAL STRATEGY – FIRST PRINCIPLES
1. We need to renegotiate our position over a number of years and not simply leave -Time scale for renegotiation could be say 5 years for the key principles and possibly 10 before our new renegotiated position is fully implemented and operational.
2. Payments to the EU budget would be reduced over say 5 years
3. Taking part in Euro elections along the way of our renegotiation need to be considered with the following types of considerations that the terms and conditions of all existing MEPs are in the main the responsibility the EU and any new MEPs, if applicable, being paid but not pensioned by the EU.
4. Withdrawal from the CAP and CFP and negotiating a free trade agreement would be 3 of the key areas to sort out within the first 5 years.
5. Parallel trade negotiations would need to start from day one with Commonwealth and any other countries we trade with.
6. 10 year plan to resort our own judicial system
7. Border immigration controls could be one of the few areas to take back control of on day one while the negotiations to repatriate, absorb or redefine visa status for EU citizens in this country would take longer.
8. Unwinding the tentacles of our defence that are tied up with the EU would take 5-10 years but the aim would be our own defence force capable of operating on its own to accomplish all the tasks required of it by the Country’s defence responsibilities.
9. Sole UK Foreign policy reinstated over a first few years
10. The repeal of EU bureaucracy in trade, industry, H&S, NHS or education etc etc phased over first 5 years
So the list can go on. This business of our E&SS is no easy matter but where are the people giving this thought and why is UKIP not leading on this?
Sorry I forgot EUKIP MEPs are far too busy getting p***ed in Brussels................. I wonder when Nigel last held a strategy and tactics meeting with his MEPs?
Mr Warry - do you seriously believe that UKIP have not discussed a post-EU life for the United Kingdom? Are you seriously suggesting that is the case or is it that your overwhelming negativity towards UKIP causes you to frequently take leave of your senses and spout such bitter and baseless vitriol
