I just hope UKIP don't win too far! Wouldn't want to upset three quarters of the people on this forum would we!

Unless the Lib Dems de facto endorse the UKIP candidate there is little chance of that happening sadly. I don't know of any local circumstances which might make the lib dems prefer the UKIP candidate over the tory candidate.

2007 result was:

Lib Dem 534 (49.9%)
Con 425 (39.7%)
UKIP 111 (10.3%)

That is one major league fuckup by the Lib Dems though. Of no interest to all those here who are not interested in British politics except when UKIP is negatively discussed.

Does any one know which branch is standing the candidate?

a large chunk of the LibDem vote is a protest vote.

With the right sort of campaign...

I'm a bit puzzeled, BB, by your comment about Mike Nattrass.

Have I missed something? Has Mike become one of those 'gay icons'?

Nooo of course not. Those silly people, with their reality (i.e. that UKIP is doing dismally). Why don't those people get with the program, and realise that great success is just around the corner for UKIP. And if it's not around that corner, it must be just around the next one! It's all a lead-up to UKIP's astonishing victory that will happen in 2009, where it will miraculously double its number of MEP's!
