But we will never get into power unless we get people to vote for us and nearly every one votes on domestic issues and it doesn't matter what you tell them they always will.

Some people want to lighten up!
It was a typical shock jock provoke phone in response off the cuff James Whale mostly amusing sometimes banal speech. I found it mainly amusing and treated it in the fashion that it was presented. |

It may be recalled that a major speech at the UKIP Conference at Bristol in 2004, just after the success in the Euro elections, was by former Chairman of the Police Federation, Alan Eastwood*.
He made precisely the same suggestion as James Whale, who, following his sacking by TalkSport earlier this year, now makes his living by promoting tat on satellite shopping channels. Alan Eastwood also said: 'Legalise drugs'. A few people at the top of UKIP seem to want to legalise mind-altering drugs, despite the evidence that really tough policies on drugs actually work. I wonder why? +++++++ * FOOTNOTE: I still keep in touch with Alan, who now lives in Glyndyfrdwy in Denbighshire, North Wales. He told me some time ago that joining UKIP and then joining Veritas were both 'two big mistakes' ++ P.S. Alan Eastwood is also close to holding the record for the lowest number of people ever to sign a petition to the Prime Minister - namely 9: Closed petitions | Number10.gov.uk His petition was to ask the Prime Minister to use Lundy Island for dangerous criminals. Major drug dealers, perhaps? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by Tony Bennett; 06-09-2008 at 11:07 PM. |

Nial I know where you are coming from but you are wrong, yes we could be doing a lot more, as we could be doing a lot more to get into a position of real power and influence and without the real power and influence we will NEVER have sovereignty.

The current approach to drugs isn't working and it would be sensible to try something else. Whilst UKIP is seeking attention for being a party unafraid to try new ideas, it ought to welcome such a provocative speech.

You forget that these celebrities that you court are not too bright and have made careers out of being outspoken. Get some honest, decent local people who are like the people you want to vote for you. You are being turned into a comical circus and must all be embarrassed.

A wide-ish cross-section of UKIP members past and present think of themselves as "libertarian". I wouldn't myself, but whereas I have great respect for the way in which the likes of Anthony Butcher put forward the principle in thoughtful and respectable ways, too many of those who are in a position to invite speakers to party events - and too many of those whom they invite - seem to confuse "libertarian" with "maverick", "contrarian" and "two fingers to the law". They seem to think it's all a great hoot as well. Well, it isn't. It concerns the most serious matters and no party can expect to be taken seriously if it treats them so flippantly and recklessly. One thing is clear: when both Gabb and Whale get invited to a major UKIP event within months of each other, it cannot just be dismissed as an unfortunate coincidence. |
