I am fairly certain that Annabelle left before the 'abusive' phone calls began. In fact she appears to have resigned several weeks before the John West taxigate saga.
The David Abbott donation issue is very old and Farage himself promoted Abbott to come on to the NEC knowing the history. Andrew Edwards is nothing to do with UKIP anymore and hasn't been for a long time. What a totally lame and inaccurate article. It is a conconction of nothings to make it sound interesting. So some people think that someone else should be party leader... big deal. Show me a political party that doesn't have that.

Yes, I thought it twisted. Always trying to present people in a bad light. Who does the reporter support I wonder?

What's interesting about this article is the underlying spin. Blair's spin-doctors used to do this sort of thing all the time to drum up support for a beleaguered PM. Nice of Farage's supporters to do something similar.
Try breaking it down. Poor Miss Fuller, best friend of Mr Farage, resigns because of sexist abuse. Poor Mr Farage faces not one, but 4 coups!!! What a trooper, to carry on regardless. Poor Mr Farage names his enemies, knowing the bright young investigative journalist will investigate and cross-check. Funnily enough, the 'enemies' statements broadly agree with Farage's. Amazing how the only unverified bit involves a series of plotters meeting in a hotel in Bournemouth to plot the overthrow of UKIP's beloved leader. It's like 'Allo 'Allo crossed with Orwell's Animal Farm. Just when Farage needed the troops to rally behind him, out comes an article telling all the old non-active members that that nice young Nigel Farage is being got at. If this was the Tories, you'd know the next move. Operation Hummingbird, anybody? Last edited by chikrodah; 06-09-2008 at 10:57 AM. Reason: clicked submit too early! |

Just think. You have an elderly relative. Would you trust her life savings to the sole care of Nigel Farage? The most interesting thing about the Independent is the feeling that Tim Congdon may have woken up to the Farage problem.

Not a very flattering photograph of Annabelle.
![]() It appears that neither the author James Macintyre or photographer Teri Pengilley are exactly at the top of their professions after seeing this article. ![]() Still, it's only for the Independent & not many people read that comic. |
