Default Paul Nuttall is new Chairman!

Young new Chairman for UKIP - UK Independence Party

Quote:
UKIP has appointed its youngest ever Chairman, it was announced at the party’s annual conference in Bournemouth. He is 31-year-old Paul Nuttall, from Merseyside.

Mr Nuttall has been a member of UKIP since 2004 and formed the party’s South Sefton branch in 2005. Since then he has stood in one general election and three local elections, taking 38% of the vote in Bootle last time.

A former history lecturer, Mr Nuttall has for the past two years worked in Brussels with UKIP’s MEPs and their team of researchers and assistants.

He said it was a great honour to be appointed UKIP’s chairman, but “It is a huge job to take on, especially at a time which most people consider to be the most important in UKIP’s history.

"It is vital not only for UKIP that we get it right, but also for our great nation."

Mr Nuttall said his appointment was "a clear break with the past" and he had the opportunity to approach the role with "a new broom".

He added: "We need to look to the future as a professional, confident and united party. If we do, I am sure we will reap the benefit at next year's European elections and beyond."

He succeeds Dr John Whittaker MEP, to whom he paid tribute: "John Whittaker has been my mentor in many ways. Many thanks are due to him for the tremendous work he has done in taking the party forward."

Several people predicted this, correctly; I alas placed my chips on Lisa Duffy. I was right in suspecting they wanted a young chairman, but that's all...

I have been impressed by Paul Nuttall`s articles in the Ind News over the years ,he is obviously very good on paper ,I haven`t met him so I can`t comment any further .

However he has two problems to overcome as Chairman .
First of all it appears that he has taken advantage of his close links to NFand co and allowed himself to be manouvered into the top spot on his MEP`s list ,the duly elected candidate apparently having had a Damascene conversion to a new life style and secondly he is a paid member of the EU team and therefore not a representative of the rank and file .
It`s a pity that they can`t find someone from the list of local chairmen etc or an elected member of the NEC to fill the spot to show their regard for democracy and for the general membership ,after all that is who he should be dealing with from now on .
Apart from his age I see no clear break with the immediate past ,just an extension of the present .
Nevertheless good luck to him ,he`ll need it .

He also had this to say (for the likes of Niall Warry please note):-

paraphrased:-

"UKIP needs discipline and unity to follow the path to achieving our objectives; so, for those who bring disunity and disharmony to the party ...either got on board OR GET OUT !"

And he is right.
