Is UKIP the next 'Catch-All' party? --page 3
Most of us have been asked at some time what sort of people UKIP attracts as its voters and members. After explaining a few of the more well known policies such as leaving the EU, many instinctively believe that we are a target for traditional small 'c' conservatives. However, it is not as simple as that. Looking deeper into UKIP policy you will find a strong argument that it is in fact the next 'catch-all' party, as Labour were previously considered to be during the 1990's when the electorate had become disillusioned with the ageing and out of touch Conservative Party headed by John Major. In the current difficult economic climate, our tax policy is a particular favourite because a lower, flatter and altogether simpler tax would undoubtedly benefit everyone- especially those on the lowest incomes. With rising food and energy bills, this sound UKIP policy would bring enormous benefit to the hard working people of Britain. Traditionally, these two policies are from the conservative strand of politics in the UK. However, on closer examination they in fact reveal that UKIP are the only political party who can actually represent every hard working individual in the UK, no matter what background they come from. Within Young Independence, there is a broad membership with active members passionate about ideologies of conservatism, socialism, liberalism and libertarianism. This clearly shows that the age old argument of left versus right has run its course. As party leader Nigel Farage MEP has previously expressed, UKIP is nether left or right- it is centre of public opinion. Our commitment is to let the public know that we share their opinion. Another favourite is the policy of reintroducing of grammar schools, unique to UKIP. It seems madness that we send all children regardless of intellectual ability to just one kind of school where large class sizes and disruptive pupils mean that the more academic pupils are distracted and the less academic cannot receive the help and support they need.
