Default Ballot paper arrives

Just received my ballot paper to vote on EU candidates.

The system is not FPTP, but is based on a system of one whole vote for first preference, half a vote for second, a third of a vote for number 3 etc. up to a maximum of 10 in the SE. I shall use all 10 places so that I can exclude my 3 definite non-preferences.

In related news, my election website is now live.

Ray Finch - Fighting For Our Future!

This has been a public service announcement.

As there has been a breach of the selection rules which will result in some members' votes being wasted, the ballot is clearly invalid.

The rules as published on the party website state:

quote
Candidates may apply to two regions, but this must be disclosed to both regional panels (and to members in the regions if any candidates make it to more than one shortlist).
ends

Two SE candidates - Marta Andreasen and Victor Webb - appear also on the shortlist for London Region, but this has not been disclosed to SE members. These candidates, if elected to both final lists, will have to withdraw from one or the other as European parliament election rules prohibit candidates from standing in more than one electoral region. Some members who vote for these candidates in ignorance of the fact that they may be forced to withdraw, will thus have their votes wasted.

I heard a rumour that Mrs. Andreasen was standing in another region but did not know Mr. Webb was doing so. I had heard a rumour another, named, candidate was standing elsewhere.

Perhaps the information is on the OS?

Hmmm. Thanks Barboo, I think. I was going to put Victor Webb in my top 10, but down the list a bit. I can't think why anybody would be voting for a pro-EU non-resident foreigner anyway.

I will vote, but it is important, Barboo that you raise this matter with the returning officer, Piers Merchant.

OS?

According to the shortlist published at <http://www.ukip.org/ukip/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=697&Item id=63> six candidates appear on more than one list:

Lynette Afshar in EM and WM
Stephen Allison in EM and NE
Ralph Atkinson in EM and London
Marta Andreasen in London and SE
Victor Webb in London and SE
Paul Wiffen in Wales and Scotland

Do you have an e-mail address for him, please?

I don't, but I think he should be contactable through mail@ukip.org as that is the e-mail on his letter.

Sorry for lack of clarity.

Has anyone been able to bring these selection irregularities to the attention of Christopher Gill, or is he still on holiday? Not for the first time, we have serious faults with our election procedure; apart from the additional cost, it makes public our incompetence. Is this not conclusive evidence that we should only allow the Electoral Reform Service (Society) to organise our important party elections?

When these voting forms were printed, did they not at first print a few, 'proof copies'
for the approval of the Political Committee? Surely we didn't print the full number without first confirming the accuracy of the information?
