June 2009 will determine what happens to UKIP. The supporters of the present Leadership, people like DD and Raymond Finch clearly expect gains at the Euros. If that happens then UKIP will be making progress. But if instead of gains the number of MEPs are halved then the loyal supporters of the Leadership will be forced to confrint that reality.

How well we do in the general election in a year after, depends a lot on how well we do this EU election.

Attack at every level ...... Westminster; Europe; County; District and Parish elections.

No good ignoring the next biggest election to a general election (the EU election) where there are seats available for representation of constituents in this country by a system which, in fact, controls the destiny of British people's lives more than the Westminster parliament - even if it does happen to be in a foreign land.

The arguments for having MEPs is well rehearsed and does not detract from the importance of the Westminster side of it.

There might seem to be an over-eagerness at the moment for involvement in the EU election - but that is because it is the next big hurdle UKIP has to confront.

The general election has not been neglected - the strategy to get all the prospective parliamentary candidates in place in good time is well under way (two years in advance), and is the prerequisite for a good well organised general election campaign after the EU elections next year.

This endless circular argument reminds me of a stormy marriage, where one partner strays, but they agree to stay together. Then for the next 10 years every time the going gets tough the infidelity is brought up. The 'old stager's' of the party keep doing this and it shows just one thing, that when trust is gone then there should be a parting of the waves. There will nothing the modern party could ever do that would satisfy those who see UKIP has inherently corrupt. There is equally very little that anyone can do to curb the Rants of the likes of GLW. Those who want to see UKIP prosper should get on with the job of building a strong party. I resent the fact that because some high profile failures occur that implies at a local level things are not good. Rather than make generalisations perhaps people should deal in facts, if turn out goes down, and our share of the vote, no matter how small goes up, then that should be applauded, not derided. I was shocked by just this sort of negativity in the last Independence magazine when analysing the Locals.
