I agree with you concerning fools and perfection. I don't pretend to be perfect, but at least I can read and write and think logically. If you had read all of my posts you will note that when I have been foolish I have quickly conceded the fact. I know my limits, you don't know yours. That is the difference between us.

Thank you, but the issue here is not electoral pacts. Shunning such a pact with the BNP during an election in Britain does not necessarily preclude joining them in a European parliamentary group, and I was interested in how far candidates' principles extend to alliances within the EP.

The point I wanted to get across to mrabody is that unless there are prior discussions between Nigel Farage and the party's other candidates, and some agreement reached between them and the NEC on what would be suitable alliances, the party risks a repetition of 2004 when the group arrangements were left entirely to the MEPs. Obviously no concrete decisions can be taken until the results of the Euros are known, but Nigel could and should be reporting back on the negotiations he is having with others, and the background of the parties he is considering linking UKIP to should be researched. Unless you are happy for fine words about UKIP having no association with extremist groups to be undermined by links made in the European parliament, you need to think beyond next June's elections and prepare now for decisions you may have to take quite quickly once you get to Brussels.

For example, consider UKIP's former Ind/Dem colleague Mario Borghezio, about whom Wikipedia says:

In October 2005 the first day of UKIP's annual conference was given over to the Ind/Dem group. UKIP MEPs Farage, Knapman and Titford addressed it, Mike Nattrass chaired it, and Mario Borghezio was welcomed as an invited speaker. He apparently 'wowed' Conference with a powerful speech, left the auditorium to a standing ovation and his contribution to the event was reported in UKIP's December newsletter. I doubt that many of the assembled party members knew Borghezio's background, or that a month previously he had been convicted and fined for arson. He was accepted enthusiastically as a like-minded colleague of their MEPs.

Does this matter? Are such colleagues helpful to UKIP?

All valid points but I think at this point, we'll just have to wait and see as it's much too early to know who will be standing.
