I cannot believe the report re Derek Clarke. After all, D Cameron in the last few weeks made a declaration at a meeting in the marginal Harlow seat, that if in power`after the next general election, he would be most unlikely to call a referendum on the EU Constitution, which of`course goes against his earlier promise. Also, they keep changing their policies re new housing. The BOO agreement was made over a year ago in anticipation of a snap Autumn election. So much has`changed since then, that the agreement can be no more.
It is quite clear that the CONservatives cannot be trusted, so UKIP must be prepared to fight all constituencies, especially because if `UKIP did not fight some seats, the BNP or EDs would simply hoover up UKIP votes, and UKIP members at the same time. A totally insane policy, that no proper Party would follow. Martin Harvey. |

Under David Cameron the Conservative Party has made huge strides. I'm sure David now regrets the stupid statement he made about UKIP a couple of years ago.
If the Conservatives extend the hand of friendship and co-operation to UKIP it is essential that we accept. Not to do so would be political suicide. Last edited by Mikeuk; 14-07-2008 at 11:05 AM. |

..but will we withdraw our candidate for Witney? Cameron would be silly to do a deal to help some Tories, but leaves himself wide open to Tolstoy's withering intellectual attacks and book peddling.

-A. whereas the Lisbon Treaty cannot enter into force until it is ratified by all 27 Member States; this not being the case, any and all new budget programmes contained in the unratified Treaty (such as the European External Action Service) should not be funded until such time as the Treaty is ratified by all 27 Member States,
This is the amendment, it is in Eurocratese, but what it essentially means is that given the Treaty is unlikely to be ratified, then all new funding streams that rely upon the Treaty for their legal base be declared null and void. That would include things such as the EU's diplomatic service the EEAS, and so on. In order for an amendment to be submitted at a late stage you have to fulfill one of two requirements. A) It is submitted by an individual in the name of the Group, or B) It is submitted by I think 42 signatures. Obviously it is easier to go on behalf of the group than rounding up the requisite signatures. Thus this amendment was submitted by Farage after all UKIP MEPs - and the Ind/Dem Group had been asked if they were happy with it. (A single MEP can veto amendments being put in on behalf of the group) The Tories who signed it did so in the knowledge that it was an Ind/Dem amendment. Fropm what I understand on the grapevine this had the beneficial effect of causing a hellstorm in the Tory delegation. So a sensible amendment was put in by Farage, which was supported by a few Tories. This is no alliance, far from it. It is stirring a pointy stick in Tory wounds. |

The Agent, a particularly unpleasant former Para officer with pro-EU views, was busy persecuting a gay councillor. There were some entertaining shenanighans which gained the Tories much publicity, including a black tie D-Day Ball at the local yacht club. The cabaret was a 6' 2" drag queen singing Vera Lynn songs. That one ended up in the Guardian. ![]() Unfortunately my loyalty was not always reciprocated. One day I was gobsmacked to be informed by the gay councillor that thanks to me his activities were becoming associated with violence. This came about after I featured on the front page of the local paper after fighting off a knife-wielding mugger in Brighton. The Gay went bankrupt; the Agent lost the election and lost his job. I moved on... |

Largely agree. Note: the statement in colour above however, is somewhat inconsistent (not normally your kind of mistake Geoffrey), as "to agree to the need for reciprocity" would imply negotiation with them. That is out of the question. UKIP should decide for itself and with good transparent reasons only whether to accept a BOO non-candidature. Let us be clear about this: Tories are our (and the countries) enemies. DED. - |
