Default Good for Bob Spink

The Abortion Bill is up for debate again next week and the Commons Committee which reports on abortions is recommending making abortions easier .
Two members of the Committee Bob Spinks and Nadine Dorries ( a very sensible Conservative MP , her blog is well above average) ,however, strongly oppose the recommendations and have published their separate report which in my view in the light of today's science is the correct one.

It's time UKIP came out against abortion.

Except of course for all those UKIP members who claim the party is "libertarian".

I think now is a time to discuss by what do we mean the term 'libertarian'?

How do you define this term?

OED Online gives "One who approves of or advocates liberty". The Oxford Dictionary of English (2nd edition revised) gives "an adherent of [extreme laissez-faire political philosophy advocating only minimal state intervention in the lives of citizens.]"

So in layman's terms libertarianism is giving more liberty to people and reducing state intervention in their lives. Something which I am a fan of to some degree.

UKIP should steer clear of trying to force its elected representatives to toe a pro or anti stance.

UKIP should issue a statement that on abortion it is a matter of individual conscience and UKIP will not force its politicians to toe a line they are morally against.

UKIP can of course say they support lowering the age of abortion as medical advances mean younger and younger premature babies survive.
