In my Eurofacts today David Owen wrote a letter suggesting Bob Spink should do what David Davis has done except he would call his bye-election on the issue of leaving the EU. I think this would be a great idea, despite the possible risk, for I feel sure properly organised UKIP would a lot of anti EU support.

He should have called a by-election upon his defection. But not one now. It is unnecessary and we are already due another three by-elections, I think, so the media effect would be puny (keeping in mind the low amount of reporting on Davis' so far). Thus the by-election would be rendered worthless and would probably just rip another chunk out of UKIP anyway, since a large Tory win would probably be inevitable there at the present time.
