I recently made a formal complaint to the police which resulted in an arrest. The police knew that I had been a parliamentary candidate and when a policewoman brought the statement to my house for signing I was amused to see that my name was prefaced by the title 'The Rt Hon.' wherever it appeared.
I pointed out that I was not an MP and that even if I had been, only members of the Privy Council are entitled to that title. I then crossed through and initialed the words wherever they appeared. I wasted my time. The title was restored regardless, and used on all official police documents in the case. |
