Default list of prospective ukip MEPs in the West Country

Hustings for prospective MEPs in the West Country
The Dorset leg of the MEP hustings is at the Bournemouth International Hotel on Friday the 25th of July at 7.30 pm.

The short list of ten successful candidates are: (In alphabetical order) Jeffrey Beer - Devon,
Trevor Colman - Devon,
The Earl of Dartmouth - Devon and London,
Eric Edmond - Somerset,
Julie Harrison - Devon
, Stephanie McWilliam - Cornwall,
Julia Reid - Wiltshire,
Rachel Tingle - Gloucestershire,
Gawain Towler - Dorset
, and Alan Wood - Wiltshire.
By happy coincidence all of the counties are represented with 6 men and 4 women of various age groups selected on merit. Commiserations to those who didn't quite make the final list. For those who can't attend any of the hustings the Bournemouth leg will be filmed for viewing on UKIP TV.

Shouldn't this be a "provisional list" of MEP Candidates! According to the selection procedure on the website the lists surely cannot be officially announced until July 11th after they have been scrutinised by the party's political committee?

I've never even heard of Rachel Tingle. Nonetheless, I will look forward to meeting her at some point in the future.

The short listing takes place between 2 and 30 June. There is nothing in the rules that says the regions cannot announce who has been put forward. If the Political Committee disagrees then one assumes the person will be de-listed, but I suspect given that surely everyone agrees the local groups should decide then no one is going to object!!!!!!!!, except of course those not selected.

There are many questions to be answered about these MEP lists, and the one who must do that is Christopher Gill. The exemptions for some from enclosing their deposits; late inclusions, relatives, surreptitiously imposed on committees, and the role of paid of servants in the selection process, is not acceptable to many UKIP members.

If Mr Gill is prepared to preside over these things, can we assume that the 'vote-counting' procedures will be at the same level? The NEC should demand a full explanation from him on July 14th. Peolple with many years of voluntary service to the Party, were exluded from selection, in favour of unknown and unsuitable ones. It must be reasonable that all applicants have experience and skills relevant to the duties of an MEP. A former service officer, who subsequently established a successful business, and is committed to our cause, was rejected by his selection committee: apparently he was not deemed a 'team player'; while those who cannot demonstrate any talent, other than being a shelf-filler in a supermarket, or similar employment, are enthusiastically endorsed.

This cannot be deemed acceptable, if we are to be taken seriously by the electorate.

can you give examples or is this just another attempt to cause trouble. I didn't include my deposit with my application. It said only those who actually made it onto the list would need to provide a deposit and even then not until later in the year. I did include a £250 admin fee with my application which didn't seem unreasonable.

Not acceptable to you maybe but then you do seem to claim to speak for "many" members without the slightest bit of evidence to support the claim. If "paid servants" are not goping to do it then who else could do it? You?

I would never assume "putting in time" is any substitute for ability. Of course all else being equal then demonstrated loyalty to the party might be the deciding factor. However I would prefer a competent newcomer to an incompetent time server.

Tamashi: I think that someone who aspires to be a MEP candidate should have the courage to use his own name, or at least a good reason, for anonymity. Those who wish to be considered are required to enclose a £250 nonreturnable deposit (admin fee 0 and contribute if successful; to the regional deposit.

Late inclusions have been included, and even later ones, could well be planned. Don't start giving me orders old chap.

It is a fact that a chairman remained silent about one of the candidates being related to an existing MEP.

Paid servants have been involved in the selection process, and also, for good measure disproportionally selected as possible candidates.

Would you like to define your criteria for competence? What is your area of competence.

Possibly this Rachel Tingle? ELFresources - speaker - Rachel Tingle

Quote:
Rachel Tingle is an economist and journalist with a wide range of experience working in economic research and consultancy; in print and television journalism; and for a number of senior British politicians. She has specialised in writing about the interface between Christianity, economics and politics, and has written hundreds of articles and two books in this area. Her booklet, Gay Lessons: How Public Funds are Used to Promote Homosexuality Among Children and Young People led directly to the Section 28 legislation in Britain which, for 15 years (until its repeal last year), banned the promotion of homosexuality using public money.
Rachel Tingle is listed as a speaker on ELF, and was a Director of a London Christian Studies Centre in the 1990s. She's also written for the Kairos Journal, an evangelical publication and is the wife of Philip van de Elst, who has written on Christian libertarianism. It has been alleged on ConservativeHome that
Quote:
Philip Van Der Elst is a lovely man. the problem was his wife, Rachel Tingle, who filled The Free Nation with religious authoritarianism and nonsense from Mary Whitehouse. The fact that censorship is incompatbible with freedom was irrelevant to Tingle. She drove a lot of members away.
Ms. Tingle refuted that allegation. Freedom Today (originally The Free Nation) is the journal of The Freedom Association, Freedom Today, which includes Batten and Helmer amongst its contributors.

If the UKIP candidate is this writer, then she's a very traditionalist right wing/libertarian Christian author with sharply defined views on homosexuality, Christian values, etc.
