Default UKIP wins seat on NHS Trust

I am pleased to announce that I have been elected a governor of the Suffolk Mental Health NHS Trust. I will be representing the constituencies of Suffolk Coastal and Waveney. The trust has 8000 members and I was elected as a UKIP candidate.

I will fight to ensure better care and understanding for those with mental health problems or learning disabilties. I will also fight for better working conditions and pay for NHS staff.

Well done John!

Do you have the election figures? Would be interesting to see margins and who else was standing.

Thumbs up

Well done on the position, I was not aware that political party members could get involved in NHS trusts! Did you do it via UKIP or as an independent?

I wish there was someone campaigning like you in Yorkshire for Mental Health issues as I have to say our situation is pretty dire, with huge waiting times and lack of community and home help for those with difficulties. A few years ago a family member had a particuarly bad experience with the system!

Well done John, What is your stance on car parking charges i am totally against them especially as staff have to pay, my wife is a Sister in the theater at our local hospital and the cost of her permit has just gone up by 38%.

Well done John

Some of the more simple minded members of our party will no doubt consider this meaningless but it a small step in the right direction.

Well done. I didn't realise governors of NHS trusts were elected nor that they were able to stand for political parties.

You didn't realise it because despite the title of this thread, governors of NHS trusts don't 'stand for' or win seats for political parties. Whilst it is excellent news that a UKIP member is playing an active part in his local community it is nonsense to make out that John West was elected as a 'UKIP candidate'.

What happened was that the election rules for governors required all candidates to make declarations of any financial interest they have in the Trust, and any membership of a political party. They did not stand as party candidates. Out of 26 candidates altogether, only John West and 2 others declared a party membership. In John West's constituency of Suffolk Coastal & Waveney there were five candidates standing for four seats. The top candidate elected had declared no political interest; the second was a Lib/Dem; the third had no political interest; and the fourth, John West, declared his membership of UKIP. The fifth (unelected) candidate declared no political interest.

A couple of minutes spent on the Trust's website elicited the above information, and whilst congratulations are due to John for winning his seat it really does not help the anti-EU cause to make this out as some sort of political victory when it wasn't.

At least John sussed out a route to get into a position of influence. Why hasnt UKIP given advice on how members can penetrate the system like this ? Amongst other things it gives chance to challenge stuff like the politically correct racism damaging nonsense now rife in quangos like NHS trusts. A next target should be fire service panels which under edict are now openly racist under the "anyone but white" principle.
