Is this happening in Hartlepool? There are clearly a large amount of Eurosceptics up there. It may even be the most pro-UKIP place in the country.

Our best coverage comes from the BBC, although even they have admitted huge bias.

So basically we have no easy way to get into the press. I notice you're new to the forum. You have a lot to learn about the situation. It is not as easy or simple as it might seem!
The Telegraph is very hostile to us as it is pro-Tory. I think there are Telegraph columnists such as Daniel Hannan, Christopher Booker, and Simon Heffer would be favourable to UKIP but they would never say such a thing in print because they would likely lose their jobs.

The local press on the other hand is more of a mixed bag. I've managed to get into local papers at least six times since my selection as PPC for Lewes in December. On the other hand, in Runnymede, the local paper is owned by Trinity (the owners of the Mirror) and is not terribly favourable to us (although they will print letters to the editor from our supporters).

I think that until UKIP can consistently get 5%+ in opinion polls we will be ignored by the large papers. We should concentrate our efforts on the local press as they often need news to print.

I like Hannan. I've just been reading one of his pieces about the Irish referendum in the Spectator. I honestly can't see what he sees in being an MEP for the modern Tory party. Except a better chance of working as a journalist, of course

Ah, but which group of newspapers owns the local paper?

Under first-past-the post, they realise we can't get enough votes to make a difference :-(

I hate to state the bleeding obvious but one of the ways in which you get the party into the press is to do something .UKIP has side -stepped the issue of the Lisbon Treaty, totally leaving it to the Tories to wave the flag on this issue .

If UKIP could be persuaded to take up the cudgels even at this late stage it just might get itself some publicity and some respect from the public for actually fulfilling the purpose for which so many voted for it at the last EU elections .

It's owned by Garnett Group in the US, and is the second largest non National group in the UK, which is why it is good to get onside with them, which we have done. As for UKIP not getting involved in the Referendum issue, we have certainly done that in the South West and have hosted a very large conference where other pro referendum groups attended. I think the problem across loud and clear on this forum, there are those who do and those who find reasons not to.

By attacking the LibLabCon's soft underbelly and especially the CONservative's. Well targeted UKIP can treaten Europhile MPs seats. This would make news as everyone likes tis sort of of contest - a will he won't he/she fall scenario.
