So dosen't that tell you something? The longer we persist in trying to appeal to the Tories the longer we will languish on 2 or 3%

UKIP needs to attack the Lib-Dems and Labour!

Little chance of that methinks - given the origins of those in charge.

Perhaps they should ask Mikeuk for guidance - he seems to have a profound understanding of those who wear clothe caps!

Anybody know how much each of the 900 odd votes cost us??

I've said before and I'll say again UKIP has not no clear tactics apart from constantly repeating wha they have done before. This has and is getting us NOWHERE.
Madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

I thoroughly agree and have been saying the same since 2005. It has long been my belief that we draw more votes from patriotic Old Labour-types.

It is, I'm afraid, too late.

UKIP's chance came in 2004 and it was blown away.
The Tories were on the floor.
They are no longer.

I won't forget the reaction of many UKIPers when Kilroy-Silk said UKIP should not throw a life-line to the Tory Party. You haven't the instincts to kill a political rival.

And, now it's too late.
The Tories are back and they do know how to kill.

When I say mission accomplished, you must understand, I'm saying that within the context of a by-election held in a constituency we didn't contest in 2005 and a contest which was hyped up as the beginning of the end of Brown/New Labour as well as the Dunwoody/Timpson personal battle.

Of course I would have liked to have seen our % of vote above 2.2%, but we have done respectably and certainly not done ourselves any harm by contesting this election. This by-election has served to:

a) show we're the fourth Party by a wide margin - young people in my College today have already mentioned to me that they are impressed at how far ahead we were of the Green's, and how well we did considering how badly the LibDems did given their press coverage.

b) establish ourselves in the constituency so that at the next General Election, when the Tories and Labour aren't throwing everything they have at it, we can establish ourselves further among locals with the foundations hopefully already there.

UKIP's battle in places like this is going to have to be done in baby steps.

I don't think so.

Time to look forward to the shape of the anti-EU Movement, post-UKIP.

Yes, indeed.

But forgive me if I discount UKIP's contribution to the Movement in the years 2010, 2011, 2012, . . .
