Elections have been won and lost on a single vote.

If the election is changed by UKIP standing and taking votes there then we shall have had a substantive effect ..... and that's effective politics.

The others will have to take notice, they will have to modify their policies to accommodate us in the future. That means moving towards an anti-EU stance. We shall have been effective.

Just the threat with UKIP standing does the same to some extent. The fact we exist and stand in the elections means the opposition do not get it all their own way. That is what we do.

DED.

Thats exactly right Douglas, we can influence policy, especialy the conservatives. If we can take enough votes and cause them to lose the seat it may spark them into action - ie elect us the Conservatives and we will promise a referendum on Europe. We need alot of Tory rebel voters siding with UKIP to make this happen.

I recall campaigning in Winchester after it was lost by 2 votes: And Maastricht was passed by one vote!

The Conservatives are afraid of the impact UKIP can have. I have a local Conservative PPC doing his best to convince me as an opposing PPC to change sides and join his campaign team. Swindon is a target seat and he knows all too well that with 10% of the vote in the locals, UKIP Swindon is making real ground. It is often said those that fear you insult and denigrate you. It is clear on this forum that there are those who fear UKIP's success hence the negativity shown.
