Default Matt O'Connor Declines UKIP Invitation

Quote:
O’Connor, 41 from Winchester in Hampshire, said that whilst he had been approached by Nigel Farage the leader of UKIP following his resignation from the London Mayoral elections, he had declined any involvement with them.
You can read the full release from a couple of days ago here:
http://www.democracyforum.co.uk/free-england-party/49865-o-connor-declines-ukip-invitation.html

This doesn't seem to have been discussed in the UKIP section at all.

Assuming that O'Connor isn't lying, do people think that Farage trying to bring him into UKIP was sensible, especially after all the accusations of alcoholism and going missing for days on end?

It seems an odd choice of person to recruit, but O'Connor has a track record of gaining publicity. As publicity seems to be the sole objective of UKIP's leadership it might be part of the strategy. Perhaps O'Connor will be invited to stand for UKIP in Henley.

I think UKIP should keep him at arms length to be honest, from everything I have read about him on this forum he's not the kind of person I'd want as my MP.

I'm still doubtful about the validity of the statement to be honest.

Best to keep him well away I think. If a party as small as the EDs wouldn't have him (back), then why would a more mainstream party like UKIP want him?

Besides, his falling out with the EDs and his impending announcement of a new party really shows he has to be the leader of his own group, even if it is just him in the party!

It would certainly be an interesting campain if he was - in fact, I can't think of anyone who would get more publicity than Matt

I wouldn't believe O'Connor if he said that the grass was green and neither should anyone else.
