When Farage came to be the UKIP leader he should have brought to light the fact that the EU expences where there to be taken. Did he not know until Tom Wise highlighted the fact? or is he now upset that the cat is out of the bag? Hopefully the EU will act to stop the waste of our money!!

Tom Wise did not 'highlight' the fact, this was not an intentional press release on his behalf, but rather he was caught out. What did he do with the money? Did he actually do anything useful or just pocket it?

Sounds a very good idea to me. You drink the wine and, then throw the empty bottles at anyone who attempts to invade this other Eden demi-paradise. Think about it Petrina,
this is really original thinking. Better than stealing wrought iron fences to make spitfires. He wasn't called Wise for nothing. From Plato to NATO. From Wise to Surprise. |

Of course Mr Farage knows, of course every single MEP of whatever stripe or persuasion is well aware of the expenses regieme.
If you ever go along to a UKIP MEP meeting up and down the country, telling people about the regieme is one of the stock in trade. Pointing out how the system works, how it is used to provide golden shackles and comnfortable lives (though to be fair not that comfortable lives - if I lok at my own peer group, and if I have the good fortune to be selected then I will not be in the top half for earnings amongst my friends). The civil servants in Brussels do very nicely as well, with allowances on top of allowances. But that is for a later post. The point is is that our MEPs have talked about this to journalists until they are blue in the face. I have personally gone through the entire expenses system with both tabloid, broadsheet and electric media hacks. Every now and then local journalists turn up on what is called the European Parliament Journalists Scheme (subsidised by the Parliament of course and the expenses are regularly not mentioned to their editors back home). They, not having seem it before often report on the general expenses scandal, however to the national press it is not a story, haing been covered by one or the other of them every year or so. The guys from the News of the World are normally in London, they were told to go to Brussels and not come back until they had a story (or about 6,000 words). So essentially they were more like a local newspapermen, allbeit ones with the resources and morals of the Murdoch champions they are. Indeed, right at the beggining of their visit I sat with them over a pint and went through the enitire expense regieme - and the trips and jollys that go under the name of 'delegations' which are this week's target; trips and jollys that no UKIP MEP has ever gone on. That was the first of a number of meetings where various story ideas were chucked about, but it is now apparent that they were not after news per se, but to retread old ground. What I wasn't banking on was the use of a young personable and very attractive agent provocatuer. That being said, I am overall happy with the last two weeks coverage. It is a shame that they targetted Tom who made a fool of himself and the euroseceptic cause. However the general impression given to readers is that the European Parliament, and by extension the whole Brussels EU set up is venal, corrupt and something we could well do without. Though deeply embarrassed by Tom, we can take heart that milliuons of people will be reading something along the lines of, "The EU is (add expletive here) awful, why don't we leave?" |

[quote=gawain;502030]Of course Mr Farage knows,
If Farage knew, he should have gone on air and told all about the expences they all pocket, he was quick enough to state on air "It is up to Tom wise to go to OLAF and prove his innocense" which is of course is EU law and NOT British law, in this country every one is INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY, Farage should resign as an MEP NOW!! |
