Roger Helmer also didn't do us any favours on this one either.
That is the problem with the EU system. It is designed to play on peoples greed and selfishness. Then, if they don't do as they are told, they can threaten to withdraw the bounty or grass them up to the media. The Mafia works in a similar fashion.

Agreed. The new UKIP MEPs (if we get any) must be seen to be above reproach. We can't have them going over there living the high life. There job is to expose EU corruption and help win the party power in the UK. There are far too many who have been promised seats in Brussels (Gulleford is one) for reasons other than helping the country. Too many see it as a gravy train. I can name at least three potential MEP candidates in the East (apart from Gulleford) who see the job as a way to milk the system for all it is worth. Published by UKIP on its website, 28 February 2008:
QUOTE Secrecy still shrouds EU gravy train [Thursday, 28 February 2008] They are the new aristocrats of Europe - elected representatives who enjoy free holidays, dinners at Michelin-starred restaurants, an on-call chauffeur service and generous second pensions funded entirely by the taxpayer. But MEPs who take full advantage of their well-funded allowances are often not breaking any rules technically, as a secret audit hushed up by the European Parliament would show, were it ever to see the light of day. The shocking truth about the gilded life of some MEPs is that their largesse is sanctioned mostly by the Brussels Establishment that refuses to publish its own research into the many possible fiddles or to hold an open debate about root and branch reform. "They have designed a system where it is actually harder to be honest than to be dishonest,” said Jeffrey Titford, a UK Independence Party MEP and one of the few members of the European Parliament’s budget control committee to vote on Tuesday to publish the secret auditor’s report, which is said to have many recommendations for reforms." None of this reflects well on Farage either. He has been leader of the UKIP MEPs in Brussels for a very long time. Why hasn't he instigated strict controls on how they use their expenses? Surely UKIP should have a code of conduct, backed up with thorough checks, to ensure that its own members don't engage in the very gravy train they are there to expose?
It's another totally avoidable mess of UKIP's own making.

Tom Wise M.E.P. can actually be seen and heard boasting about 'making two grand this week' etc. etc. on the News of the World website:

Using quotes from Jeffrey Titford would not be wise at the moment. Recent events in the East prove he is as bad as the rest of them. |

As for Wise he is an MEP. And he is a member of UKIP. So what twisted logic makes him "not a UKIP MEP." |

And, incidentally, whilst we are on expenses, where is the "Sunday Times apology" for that unfortunate little story about Farage paying his son?
Farage kept claiming "they were about to apologise" and "he was taking legal action" and.....and???? |

It all depends on the people you elect. There are good people in UKIP who put Country before personal gain. These are the people we need standing in the Euros and General Election. There are people in the East who not only give up their spare time but also their money to help our cause. These are the people I want to see representing us.
Unfortunately, Jeffery Titford and his sidekicks never seem to appreciate that. They would rather promote their favourites. |
