I've just applied on the BBC website to be in the audience. They ask about your political views and party membership etc - which is fair enough in principle - and I responded accurately.
There is a separate question which says: "Are you pro-Europe or sceptical". I replied: "I love Europe, but I want the UK to leave the EU". Their crass use of the word "Europe" for the EU says it all. |

I agree, it is awful. In their defence however, it is a fairly common term of reference for the EU. The UKIP big cheeses frequently use the word 'Europe' when they mean the EU, and if they can't get it right....

eublues - it is nor fair enough for the Beeb to profile their audience. The justification they give is to provide audiences with broad views, i.e. over representing minority views and under representing majority views.
The only fair way to get an audience which reflects the views across society is to pick randomly in lottery-style from the pool of applicants for the show. To profile and screen an audience is not fair at all.

I agree with Harry. A lottery would be much fairer than profiling.

Exactly, there's nothing to stop people lying on the BBC form.

I got on a few things in the past and was offered a QT place too, with being honest.
I think the location can sway the kind of audience you get more than anything. Of course, the careful bias of Dumbleby can push an audience one way or another too.
