Default Political Profile of a 'Typical' UKIPer?

Is every member of UKIP a Thatcherite Conservative? Or do you have a 'broad church' in terms of membership (e.g. members who are more 'populist')?

UKIP has every sort of member under the sun.

Including Thatcher lovers. I didn't like her when I was a member and I still don't. She sold us out to the EU and hasn't made a good enough effort to make amends. She was also a social authortarian and helped create the BS that is man made global warming.

As Matt says there are members from all across the political spectrum. It's the broadest church around.

I am ex Labour. Being a young man in Liverpool in the early 80s does not endear Thatcher to me (95% unemployment in Croxteth anyone?), having 2 cousins in St. Helens Colliery beaten up by her politicised police force and signing the Single European Act just added to her roll of infamy.
A reasonable proportion of UKIP members are indeed Thatcherites. But we have many other strands of political background.
The one thing we ALL have in common is that we recognise the EU is an anti-democratic megastate which seeks to crush self determination both for nations and individuals. We all see that as the greatest threat, not just to the freedom of our nation but to the freedom of all of our european neighbours.

Being Anti-EU is not being anti-European. In some ways it is quite the opposite. We appreciate that Greeks, Poles, Germans or any of the other nations have a right to be who they are and we WANT dialogue and free trade with them. We just do not want all of our peoples crushed into a giant homogenous whole of european serfs ruled by a giant corrupt bureaucracy with an insatiable, uncontrollable desire for power over our every action.

Indeed. We're not anti-european we're pro-european. We welcome trade and research links, many things but don't think that the EU is the right model to run these things.

Too much power in the hands of a few, unelected and unaccountable politicians never leads to good things...

As much as I can find no fault with your post.

Do you really feel that those at the top of UKIP are imbued with the *killer instincts* required to deliver your desired outcome?

Yes - the europhiles are the real anti-europeans. Because - through the anachronistic, backward, inefficient, bureaucratic and costly EEC/EU which they all support and are fixated with - they have damaged and will continue to damage europe and reduce the influence of europe in the world.

Since the EEC/EU was formed the population of the EU/EEC area has been falling; the industrial output of the EEC/EU has reduced and EEC/EU exports to the rest of the world have gone down - just as rapidly as the populations, industrial outputs and living standards of the USA, Brazil, Mexico and a number of Asian nations have gone up.

its strange how one of the europhiles excuses is "we need the eu to compete in a globalised world" yet the eu will just hold us back from our potential if anything.
