Bottom line for UKIP though, was that Damian and Hulme had the seats. They tried to use that power to wrestle control of the party (that's politics) and then ****** up badly with the whole Vertias affair.

UKIP should have been pragmatic and brought them back in quite early on. Instead, noses were cut of to spite the face and everyone has ended up a loser in London for UKIP.

There is too much worrying about positions and jealously guarding them and not enough thinking about what will be good for the party in UKIP. All parties have that to a certain degree (Jesus look at Brown and Blair), but even they managed to put that aside enough to make sure their party had a chance of winning. If Blair had taken the UKIP approach, Brown would have been booted out years ago and Labour would probably have self destructed. Oh how I wish they had taken that approach, but they want power at the end of the day.

Does UKIP want power? I wonder sometimes.

Strangely, I disagree with most of the sentiments expressed here so far. When someone takes up a full time (stress that last bit) position then they accordingly give up whatever job they are doing at that time - their main source of income is that new paid position.

Should that paid position then cease, then it is reasonable for a pay off - in exactly the same way as an employee with reasonable service in any other company is entitled to.

The situation is different with contract workers. They are apid for their fixed term, when it ends, that's it. perhaps contracts for councillors and mayors should be fixed term?

It isn't a full time job though. It is a 4 year contract, that may, or may not be renewed. They are much closer to contractors than full timers.

If Knapman and Farage had called an emergency meeting as requested by Damian and many members of UKIP, the business of Damian and others leaving would probably never arisen. As it was, the UKIP management showed its weakness by going to endless lengths to block a meeting. If I remember rightly there was even argument at the time as to which was the current UKIP Party Constitution. (This affected the number of signatures required to call an emergency meeting).

Gerard Batten tried to sort the matter out later. However, once they had left, it would have been difficult for them to come back with Farage still in control.

I did not support Damian/Kilroy Silk but I did think an emergency meeting was essential, and said so.

exactly. in which case they should have a contract for the term, with clear pay off or no pay off stated, so that the public know.

Isn't it about time that all public servant contracts were in the public domain?
