Funny how your definition of liberty seems to only extend to people doing or saying what you agree with. Anyone who doesn't agree with you is obviously a fascist and therefore not entitled to any rights. An interesting philosophy indeed.

As a smoker who no longer goes to pubs - I know what you mean.

Now the good weather has began - I will probably start again - I think I will re-christen spring/summer as the 'pub season' - I refuse to rush my smoking, it defeats the object.

That comment is straight out of the leftie playbook. In the Lib Dims for a number of years were we Tom?

You are just upset that on this issue, you have been rumbled as someone who wants to impose your way on others in their own property.

The fact this does actually make you a fascist to some degree, probably is hard to accept.

But it is true.

I won't be afraid to say so because you throw all your toys out of the pram either. I'll probably get banned again, but I will always state my beliefs loud and clear and back them up with reason.

If that isn't allowed on this forum, then that is fine.

As I said above, I am proud to support laws that maximise liberty. I am proud to support the ban on murder, regardless of where it takes place, because I think people should have the liberty to go anywhere without the threat of losing their life. I am proud to support the ban on theft, wherever it takes place, because people should have the liberty to enjoy their property without being unlawfully deprived of it. And I am proud to support the freedom to express one's opinions in a reasoned and considered manner, regardless of what those opinions are.

In summary, you may attack me all you wish, but I am proud to stand up for the protection of freedom, and I will continue to do so. I will resolutely not try to impose my views on anyone, as you choose to do, and to refrain from hypocrisy, however it is dressed up. I disagree with you most strongly on your views on the smoking ban, but I will not call for you to be silenced, or, worse, gassed, even in jest. You may express these views all you wish, provided you allow me to express my opposition to your views. All I ask is that in this public forum you show a minimal level of civility and respect for others.

I don't see why that should be the case - the desire to provide a smoke free environment for those who want it does not require all pubs to be smoke free and to ban outdoor smoking anywhere, apart from where it would be dangerous, is ludicrous in a supposedly free society.

Apart from the freedom of smokers and landlords.

You are a bit fascist, end of story!

Most people are, to varying degrees. That's not an attack, just a statement of fact.

I have the opposite problem. Since I'm whiter than an eMac, I only have to spend two minutes outside and I'm sunburnt - so pubs in summer are a no go for me.

Not that it's any great loss, of course - if 70% of the population support the blanket smoking ban (instead of allowing the landlord to choose what he wants on his own property) then that's 70% of the population I don't want to socialise with, right there. Combine that with all the ugly, fat, sweaty, drunk, smelly, chavvy, thick-as-pigcrap Labour-voting masses and I figure there's only about eight people in the country I actually want to socialise with anyway.
