Default James Whale fired by TalkSport

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Radio host James Whale is sacked

He's popular and if we set up an internet radio station with James Whale talking politics, I think it would be a winner.

Given what he was fired for surely an awful lot of other people should be signing on from their political coverage of the elections

I wonder if he was fired for his views, rather than how competent he was at his job.

(when I say wonder, I mean know)

I had precisely the same thought. An internet radio station would be very cheap to set up and is not as restricted over output.

The more I read this, the more it makes me laugh.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Radio host James Whale is sacked

Quote:
A statement said: "Ofcom is currently investigating three complaints about comments made by James Whale during his show on Talksport.
"All UK broadcasters must adhere to the Ofcom's Broadcasting Code which sets standards for the content of television and radio broadcasting. "In particular, broadcasters must ensure due impartiality is preserved on matters of major political or industrial controversy and major matters relating to current public policy."
Oh yes, the media is always "fair and balanced" when it comes to candidates. The fact the vast bulk of the media didn't even bother to aknowledge the existance of the majority of candidates, doesn't seem to be a problem.
Still, if he was promoting Boris, then he needed to be sacked. Promoting pro-EU politicians should be treated with harsh punishment.

Can they be biased against parties but not for parties? Surely this would put them all in a bit of a dodgy position for the hundreds of anti-BNP comments made during an election period.

To set up a decent radio service online capable of supporting a lot of users you are starting to talk about a fair amount of cash. It's not expensive as in hundreds of thousands, but you should be looking at a budget of about £6000 a year if you are planning on playing commerical music as royalties have to be covered.

Here is an example of some fee's (US hosting would also be better due to the exchange rate):

Monthly listening hours: 15,000
Monthly Fee including royalties and licensing at 128K (you can go less but it won't be as good quality): $966
Storage space: 600MB (you'll need this for pre-recorded interviews etc.)

I make that $11592 so about £6000 if you go with live365.com

Obviously you can lower costs, but if you want a lot of listeners to be provided with good streamed audio then that's a realistic setup.
