OK, the results are in, nothing really great to say about UKIP's campaign. A few Councillors nationwide have been gained, but other than that it seems almost a step backward - I have barely heard the word 'UKIP' mentioned at all.
Rather than put a spin on things (I'm sure UKIP are better than that), what do you think is the way forward. There'll be a European Election next May and a General Election within two years so surely 'root and branch' reform is on the way? Do people favour the sustainable growth theory, one favoured by the Liberal Democrats, Greens and BNP, that a minor or fringe party has to build upon Council election successes upwards? Or is UKIP better placed to fight 'national' seats - targetting 10 top areas and going big guns for MPs and MEPS? I would personally see a party start from the bottom and build a party, having Councillors doing good work across the country rather than going for a 'top heavy' approach. UKIP should be much more about real 'Independence', not just from the EU, but also from big British government and a real sene of freedom - it would be no good having a UKIP MP in Parliament if the Constituency they represent has an over-zealous, controlling bureaucracy of a Council - undermining the principles of its MP. I would also like to see at least 8/9 solid MEPs gained at the Euro Elections. Fair enough, a poor 2008 so far, but why not now identify 10 Consituencies (now), put 90% of money and effort in targetting them (now) for the next election - going for a win of 3/4 Councillors in each (so a target of at least 30/40 Councillors gained). In addition to this, do the same in Bob Spink's Castle Point constituency in Essex so that it shows that UKIP can win its own seat - especially despite a national swing to the Tories. I'm not a expert political strategist, maybe UKIP is already doing this, but perhaps in two years from now UKIP will have, from here to then, gained 30/40 Councillors, 8/9 MEPS and have an MP re-elected, as well as perhaps coming at least 2nd/3rd in Parliamentary seats? |

I had already posted on the challenge for Castle Point:-
CASTLE POINT - the challenge Do as the LibDems do - pour resources and manpower into those areas where we have had gains and retained seats. Also start up activities in neighbouring wards and Borough's - ripple effect. Organise public meetings, street activities (petitions etc), recruitment drives - and most importantly lots of door knocking - the whole aim is to identify your voters so you know who to target when the next elections are here. We have MEPs and Councillors - well lets use them to publicise UKIP.

We need a leader who thinks beyond impressing a small and largely insignificant faction of the Tory party - lead by his chums with whom he is hoping to form a political group in the next (EU) Parliament.
We need a leader of political credibility, and personal and financial integrity. |

The current UKIP leadership should stop abusing UKIP by using it as just a mere pressure group to score points against the Conservatives.
Brief analysis of the local election results appears to indicate UKIP doing well in working class Labour areas. Perhaps spomeone can do more detailed research and those who are doing well should get together and share their knowledge and campaign tactics.

UKIP must now join forces / integrate with the BNP. Together they would be strong. The choice is now UKIPs as the BNP are now the stronger of the two. Yes UKIP may appeal more in the Euro elections 2009, but will they make it to 2009? I doubt they will under NF. The BNP will however, go on to fight hard at by-elections & Parish elections obtaining the odd seat here & there, further building their voter base, whilst UKIP will sit back and let another year go by with all eggs in one basket !

UKIP are suposedly strong in the south east. London assembly results, in that case, are very bad:-
1.Conservative Party 835,535 34.05% 2.The Labour Party 665,443 27.12% 3.Liberal Democrats 275,272 11.22% 4.Green Party 203,465 8.29% 5.British National Party 130,714 5.33% No Assembly representation. 6.The Christian Choice 70,294 2.86% 7.Abolish the Congestion Charge 63,596 2.59% 8.Respect 59,721 2.43% 9.UK Independence Party 46,617 1.90% 10.English Democrats 25,569 1.04% beaten by respect and christian choice, let alone the bnp. Is this really good enough for a mature party?

Steve Allison predicted the BNP breakthrough at UKIP's expense after the Southall and Sedgefield debacles. His words were not well received, but he was correct. |

Then you become persona non-grata. A maverick fly in the UKIP ointment.
