...and the rules apply equally to everybody do they?

In my 10 years in UKIP I learned that this is generally not the case. Who Farage approves of, may do as they wish. So Lisa Duffy, and her husband, Matt Lucas, won't have to worry too much about protocol.

How strange.

I always thought UKIPers were not the types to click their heels and do as they're damn well told.

How about some of you telling Titford what lake he can jump into.

My God. Titford and Gulleford must really hate Mr West. How dare he think about putting his name forward for the Euros. Throw him out of the party! Perhaps he should wear a target on his back. Is Gulleford a good shot?

Jeffrey Titford's rules for becoming a Euro candidate.

I. Never show initiative.

2. Never organise successful conferences.

3. Don't invite David Cambell Bannerman, Gerard Batten, Mike Nattrass, Paul Nuttall, David Fraser or Chris Hudson to speak at your meetings. Dirty self promoters!

4. Never be a good public speaker.

5. Never get 2300 votes in NEC elections.

6. Never be popular with branches in the Eastern region.

7. Never show intelligence.

8. Never be John West.

9. Always be Stuart ' A Safe Pair of Hands' Gulleford. My heir and successor.

First of all, the rules are clearly ridiculous. Why remove the opportunity for candidates to expose themselves to the activists? Many candidates will have been able to promote themselves for the last four years.

Secondly they are utterly unenforceable - Farage is applying to be on the MEP list presumably, yet he attends meetings all the time. If other candidates are being prevented from talking, then why is he allowed to? Or are some candidates more equal than others?

Thirdly, why is Titford making a public attack on a meeting now? Surely he could have voiced objections at the time, and, if he can't support the meeting, at least not criticise the good work that others are attempting.

Fourthly, why is UKIP making a hash of it again without any need? Isn't it possible for anything just to happen smoothly? The amateur Dad's Army 'charm' wears very thin after a while and just starts to look like incompetence.

It looks like a general release for the Eastern region, but you might be right.

As we have discussed many times before, this is exactly how the internal squabbles start.

As an afterthought, does Titford hold a position that provides him with some authority in this matter?

Apparently, Chris Hudson is 'Liaison Executive to Jeffrey Titford' so presumably Titford's authority comes from him being the employer who pays CH's wages!
