Not so in Germany apparently! Or that was the case three days ago when friends of mine were over there!

Is smoking still allowed in the bars and restaurants in Westminster?

There certainly wasn't one over there when I went at Christmas 2007.

I hold nothing against people smoking in or on their own property, it's their health they can please themselves! Although no one should have the right to blow smoke over other people in a public place if they don't want you to! UKIP promising to repeal the smoking ban I think it will be a vote loser not a vote winner! More and more people are looking for an excuse to stop smoking and the ban does help them.

Er, like a pub then?

I'm with M Davies. This is fascism. I don't like the way some people yell fascist all the time but think about it. Legal activity, consenting adults, no right of admitance......government bans it.

Once again we see people who really cannot see that a pub is a private establishment.

The law also applies to private clubs. That is clearly wrong. It doesn't apply to any bars in the Palace of Westminster.

Indeed. Such a deep intrusion into private property rights, not to mention the high level of communist-style hypocrisy is disgusting in a 'free country'.

I know you and I will always disagree over the smoking ban , but try looking at it another way. If there is no smoking in a pub, the smoker can have his /her drink in the pub and go outside for a cig'( in my local there is an overhang outside where they can drink and smoke) If on the other hand you are a non smoker who can't stand smoke, having a drink in a pub pre smoking ban was for them at least not very pleasant. So you could say they were discriminated against!

Default non smoker who can't stand smoke

Simply put this is the number one reason sighted. So remove the smoke, and in so doing the minaicule, scientifically irrelevant toxins and heh presto everyone one is happy. All pubs/clubs and for that matter 90% of places of employment are private places. How can having a policy of providing choice in a democracy be a vote loser, surely that is an Oxymoron. Democracy is choice. Smoking bans deny the choice of 14 million people and their 10 million tolerant no smoking friends. Non anti smokers do have choices if a pub/club displays smoking signs then the choice is not to enter.
