Wordsworth is an unknown quantity at this point
Smile Bob Spink

How will he respond to the usual requests to resign and seek a fresh mandate as a UKIP MP seeing as he was elected as a Tory by a large minority?

I imagine he will say "I didn't leave the Tory party, the Tory party left me".

Default Commons, The Late Enoch Powell, Conservatives

Which is exactly what the man seen by many as the Father of the anti-EU movement in the Commons, The Late Enoch Powell, said after he quit the Conservatives in February 1974.

The same way, I should imagine, that Reg Prentice did when he crossed the floor of the House of Commons in the late 1970's from Labour to the Conservative benches.

Mr. Prentice did not resign his seat when he switched to the Conservatives.

There are more recent examples to use such as Quentin Davies (Conservative to Labour).

Under First Past the Post, unlikely Party List, it is the person who is elected, not the party. He therefore has a full mandate to continue to the next election.

When Hartley Shawcross left Labour to join the Conservatives, he became known as Hartley Floorcross.
