I brought this subject up the other day on the forum because I could not find any mention of Mr. Spink joining UKIP on the Times website.

Another poster told me it had been reported in The Times.

Following his resignation from the Conservative whip last month, Dr Bob Spink, MP for Castle point in Essex, has joined forces with UKIP to fight the EU Constitution and for more relevant policies at Westminster on the issues that concern British people.



Bob says:

“I have been increasingly disappointed with the Tory Party’s failure to be honest with the public on a wide range of issues like pensions, crime, immigration and defence, which is why I voted against the Tory whip so often in recent years and finally resigned the whip last month.



“Dishonesty over the EU Constitution is the Tory’s greatest failure. They heap criticism on other parties, but refuse to remove the Constitution if they ever get power. The public see this as opportunistic and hypocritical, but sadly, it is typical of Westminster politics. It is little wonder the public hold politicians in such contempt.



“I am delighted to join a strong UKIP team in which I will continue to fight for the primacy of our Parliament, our democracy and freedoms. I am pro, not anti-European, but positive and sensible co-operation with the EU does not require us to sell the British people down the river or to give our independence away. Sorry, but not enough publicity has been gained.

Admittedly hard with the main stream media (barely reported at all in 'Tory' rags, let alone Labour ines).

Well done, but the real test will be Bob Spink being re-elected as a UKIP MP at the next election.

This didnt benefit UKIP's London campaign as all, its unlikely it ill benefit any campaigns in the future. Also the results in London do not bode well for UKIP holding the seat when the GE comes.

If the Tories get swings of this nature to them in the General Election then not only does Spink go; but UKIP's entire BOO Strategy fails as well.
