Britannist has some supporters
Default Mrs. Dunwoody, Cheshire, Crewe-Nantwich, constituency, Labour MP, europhile

Thank you for your reply and for your help in providing the links Independent UKIP.

I am very grateful.

I was, of course, not doubting what you said but just wanted links on Mrs. Dunwoody's views on the Local Government reorganisation in Cheshire so I could put any anti-Labour Government comments she may have made on my quote file.

As you know, Gwyneth was MP at Crewe-Nantwich for decades and the people of the constituency will certainly miss her. It will be hard to believe - the next time I go through Crewe - that she is no longer the town's MP.

Sadly, over the last twenty years or more it has been the trend that whenever a eurosceptic or anti-EU Labour MP passes on the Labour candidate who replaces her/him is a europhile.

It seems that not one Sunday paper could be bothered to mention this development for UKIP.

It's not as though the papers have alternative exciting stories to tell. Leafing through the Sunday Times just now, there's a succession of page or half-page articles about Brown, Obama, Boris, etc., where a glance at the title and a scan of a few words within the article and you've got the whole story in seconds - pure waffle.

The big papers and the big boys with the money dont want UKIP or any other smaller party's chances to improve they want the people to continue to vote for the back stabbing lying parties, Hench why they ignore us.

The Times seems to have some sort of aversion to UKIP - UKIP rarely get a mention. I have to wonder whether this is on the orders of Rupert Murdoch.

Searching through the Times Online website, I can not find an article on Bob Spink's defection to UKIP.

UKIP gets much better coverage in the Telegraph and even the Grauniad.

Great news about Bob. At long last we have our first MP. Bob don't let them push you into giving up your seat for Euroland.

From today's New Statesman:

"Further news on Tuesday morning was that the sacked MP Bob Spink had crossed over to Ukip. Spink is not thought to be a great loss. How buoyant the Tories are is reflected in their ability not to give a damn that this man-weasel has fled. A couple of years ago, if a Tory MP had defected anywhere, there would have been rumours of splits. Today, they appear unfazed. "I thought he had already gone," said one."

...and from The Daily Mirror, March 22, 2001 (p25)

Infighting hits Tories;

Byline: AIDAN McGURRAN

A TORY candidate in one of their key target seats is in danger of being dumped by his own local party.

Fifty Tories have signed a petition calling for the de-selection of the prospective Parliamentary candidate Bob Spink.

The group from Castle Point Tory Association in Essex have demanded a special meeting to debate Mr Spink's position.

Local councillor Jeff Stanley said: "This puts Mr Spink's chances of success at risk."

Shadow Home Secretary Ann Widdecombe yesterday visited the boroughto lend her support for Mr Spink.

Three former local party members have openly criticised Mr Spink, who stood for the Tories in the same seat in 1997. The seat was won by Labour's Christine Butler with a 17,000 majority.

Mr Spink said: "This is a matter for the association. I'm focusing on the real issues that people care about."

Why is Spink a 'man-weasel' while Cameron and his collection of tratorous vermin presumably aren't?

Does this signify that The Guardian and the Tory scum are now mutually supportive bedfellows?

The Guardian is just the left handed puppet at the end of the day. Spink has chosen to shun both hands and thus, will be seen by both puppets and their support teams as the enemy.

I think that was from The New Statesman, rather than the Guardian.

Very belated congratulations UKIP! Spink seems, by and large, to be one of those rare beasties, a politician who says what he actually thinks! In a sense, this event seems almost inevitable.

Bottom line: The anti-EU movement is thus strengthened without being compromised. I believe that, unlike Conway and jump-ship Quentin thingy, Bob will be respected by many of his former colleagues for this decision!
