If there is no active UKIP branch at Castle Point (Canvey Island) then UKIP did even better than political analysts say the party did in that constituency at the last General Election. UKIP got thousands of votes last time at Castle Point and came quite close to pushing the europhile Liberal 'Democrats' into fourth place. If that is what UKIP can do with no active branch - then the party's prospects at Castle Point must be very good indeed once the local UKIP branch is fully operational.

In order to reinvigorate the UKIP local constituency party in the Castle Point constituency of UKIP MP Mr. Bob Spink (if the UKIP local constituency party at Castle Point does need some help with their work) I would imagine that national UKIP will ensure that UKIP volunteers from other areas assist at Castle Point with party work.

Assuming that Mr. Spink decides to contest Castle Point at the next General Election, his constituency will be priority number one for national UKIP when that election takes place. And UKIP volunteers from across the country will, I am quite sure, help with campaigning at Castle Point.

All UKIP MEPs should be asked to help out with party work at Castle Point.

Voters in the constituency will be pleased to meet UKIP MEPs knocking on their doors.

I doubt many electors at Castle Point have met an MEP on their doorstep at all.

Michael White, political editor of the europhile Guardian, writes today (on the subject of Mr. Bob Spink MP joining UKIP) that most MPs who defect to another party do not retain their seats at the following General Election - although he has to admit (in his article) that John Horam MP who defected to the Conservatives defied this alleged trend (Michael White fails to mention in his article that both David (now Lord) Owen and George Galloway MP were re-elected as MPs after quitting the Parliamentary Labour Party):

Has anyone seen any article about the decision of Mr. Bob Spink MP to join UKIP in either The Times or the Financial Times?

It seems that they are the only national non-tabloid newspapers who have not (so far) published a report about Mr. Spink joining the party.

I have also not yet come across an article in the Daily Express about UKIP now having a voice in the House of Commons.
