The opponents of anti-EU UKIP appear to be quite rattled that the party now has its first MP in the House of Commons.

No doubt the publicity for UKIP over its historic entry into the House of Commons will help the party's prospects in next week's elections across the country.

I seem to recall lots of criticism of George Galloway MP after he quit the Labour Parliamentary Party and joined a small party. The criticisms did not stop him winning Bethnal Green for his new small party (the Respect Party) at the last General Election. Nor did criticisms stop David (now Lord) Owen from retaining Plymouth-Devonport in the 1983 General Election for the SDP after he quit the Labour Party.

And I have no doubt that criticisms will not stop Mr. Bob Spink MP from pursuing with enthusiasm his new role as the first ever UKIP MP.

If Mr. Spink contests his Castle Point constituency at the next General Election - I have no doubt that a huge number of UKIPs 16, 000 members will volunteer to help the campaign there to secure his re-election in his seat which would obviously be target number one for the party when that election is held.

I believe it will also galvanise Mr. Spink to become more of a pain in the **** to Cameron and his pro-EU compadres than ever before.
Good luck to him.

Default UKIP MP Mr. Spink, House of Commons, eurosceptic DUP, UUP

I wonder where UKIP MP Mr. Spink will sit in the House of Commons (now that he has left the Conservative Parliamentary Party and no longer sits as non-aligned MP either)? Perhaps with the nine eurosceptic Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) MPs and the one Ulster Unionist (UUP) MP.

Unless he's getting into a serious S & M situation, Ian Dale spends much of his time sitting on something that is hard rather than sharp.

It's probably the reason why he is so obsessed with 'homophobic' Bob Spink.

Spink isn`t one to let the grass grow under his feet !

The First action of UKIP MP Dr Bob Spink, was to petition the Government, on behalf of 25,000 people, including many police officers, to make our streets safer. UKIP truly represents people, across all levels of politics, on the issues that really matter.
House of Commons
Tuesday 22 April 2008
The House met at half-past Two o’clock
Petitions
Policing
10.1 pm
Bob Spink (Castle Point) (UKIP): [Mr. Speaker in the Chair]
I was told by House officials that I am making history tonight by being the first UK Independence party Member of Parliament to present a petition.

It is an honour to present this petition, which represents some 25,000 signatures from British people, many of them serving or ex-police officers. It is a petition about real policing. These people feel that politicians should butt out and enable the police to work to the public’s priorities without the imposition of politically set targets and the enormous bureaucracy and paperwork that diverts officers from making our streets safer. I congratulate the superb organiser of the petition, Mr. Hills, and every one of the 25,000 people who supported the national petition, which is very much in tune with my party’s (UKIP) principles and policies.

The petition states:

22 Apr 2008 : Column 1285

The Petition of Johnno Hills, and British citizens,

Declares that there is great dissatisfaction with target driven policing methods and calls on the Government to drop target driven policing which is undermining public trust and bringing the police into disrepute; and to cut excessive government bureaucracy which leaves our streets devoid of regularly visible police presence so that decent, law abiding citizens are afraid to walk the streets of their own country for fear of becoming crime victims.

The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons implore the Government to cut excessive bureaucracy and ensure police officers spend more time on the streets and to make the role of the PCSOs one which will support the return of regular police officers.

And the Petitioners remain, etc.
