Default UKIP MEPs and conference organiser threatened with disqualification from standing

My sources inform me that John West, Gerard Batten, Mike Nattrass and Derek Clark have been threatened with disqualification from selection or reselection as MEP candidates if they speak at Mr West’s law and order rally in May. Complaints have been made by members as it gives them an unfair advantage over other Euro candidates. The matter is to be referred to the NEC following these complaints.

Quite right too! How on earth did Mr West think he could hold a rally in the middle of the hustings period ? Mr West may be the golden green eyed boy of many branches in the East but does that give him the right to indulge in a blatant act of promotion for him and his friends?

I also understand that Mr West may have got more votes in the Eastern Region than the other NEC eastern candidates, Ms Duffy and Mr Smith. No doubt he will be holding another conference to celebrate! His good friends Gerard and Mike will probably be the guest speakers. Perhaps he will also demand a standing ovation at Bar Hill.

Mr West needs to realise there are UKIP eastern region members who have been working for the party a lot longer than him. In my opinion they should have preference over him. Mr Gill take note!

I am also disgusted that Mr West did not invite Jeffrey Titford to speak at his latest rally.

And the point here is what?

Ah, now I understand. Its not about ability or merit, its all about time serving. Someone joins the party, young, keen, hard working but of course they cannot possibly be preferred over "old joe" who joined in 1994, comes to every branch meeting to complain about the lack of progress but dosen't actually contribute anythig other than their annual membership and an occasional raffle ticket.

It dosen't matter how long you have been working for the party! Time serving isn't the key criteria. I agree that it is a consideration that might be used to seperate two otherwise equally qualified candidates but it can't be a make or break issue. Too many people in UKIP consider it as a private club where length of service is all that matters! It's very sad when the old guard get pushed aside but that's life!

tamashi,

You misunderstand the UKIP demographic. Our MEPs must be white, male, middle class and over 60 as that is our target electorate. You wouldn't want a candidate who appealed to the non-voting under 24s, for instance, or women (perish the thought) - although Nigel is a ladies man and they do like his suits!

So how about Star giving some credibility to his stories by quantifying the credibility level of his "source"

Of Course "I'm just making things up to try and cause trouble" is also a source and i suggest is the main source of Star's postings

Using these arguments Nigel would be banned for his many media appearances and as for Gerard, how disgraceful to be running a Mayoral campaign ahead of MEP selection.

One thing is for certain Star isn't a Star but another stirrer and malcontent.

Surely Nigel's high profile visits to branches have nothing to do with MEP selection.

Someone wants everyone put in purdah for 6 months

I just noticed this post. I can confirm that the matter is to be discussed by the NEC as the conference will be held after the start of the selection process for the European elections. Some feel that this may be unfair to other candidates. I can't make any other comments about the timing of the conference until I hear from the NEC.

I think this thread exemplifies why so few people take the UKIP party seriously.

Pop Lee, sorry to be a pedant, but it is not UKIP party. The P in UKIP stands for party. For you to use the word party you should have taken the P.....or was that what you were doing?
