That's a pity. I'd better put the champagne back in the fridge, then.

Nikki chaired YUK! (Youth for the UK) in December 2000. Don't know what happened to that, but in December 2001 Carl Tomson (or might have been Thomson), a student at Dundee University, wrote in the party newsletter that he was trying to get a Young UKIP group started nationally. He and another guy whose name I've forgotten did get something going called, I think, 'UK OK!'. It had a distinctive logo of a large sticker with jagged edges, a face, and arms giving a thumbs up. Don't know what happened to that either. And earlier, of course, Alan Sked had established Young UKIP in about 1995, headed by Paul Sharp.

Does that put us up to a total of at least nine attempts to set up a youth group in UKIP now?

We don't seem to have covered the years 2002 to 2004 though.

What, footle around with the grassroots and bring on board hungry young talent from universities and colleges to supplant the old guard? With only two years to build a Euro-election campaign?

What d'you think this party's for, Anthony?

Did anyone say "are you sure that you want to quit?" No.
Did he provide a letter of resignation? No.

As I understand it, he uttered the words "I might as well resign then" (or something very much like that) and it was jumped upon as an opportunity to remove him. Given the disgraceful way Whittaker ambushed him in that meeting by bringing in a surprise presentation attacking Del, one might even suspect that the entire thing was engineered to get rid of Del.

I assure you he resigned.

If however, later he changes his mind and says not so ....... (?)

The reason there are so many attempts at Student UKIP is fairly obvious, when you think about it: Students are at UNI for 4 years, so:

Year 1: Form a UKIP grouping.
Year 2: Decide you have to conentrate on exams
Year 3: Sandwich year, away from UNI, another group needed.

Repeat cycle. Cynical, moi?

I don't know of many courses that still have sandwich years.
