Fact:- All 'young UKIP' attempts before have failed, for varying reasons.
Fact:- If the UKIP leadership want Young Independance enough, they will back it - a website is paltry money. If they don't back it, then it is incredibly short sighted. Can anyone here imagine an organisation for young people WITHOUT a website?

IF Young Independance folds, then it will be the best evidence yet that no-one in the party really wants a youth wing, and the efforsts of WAH, Del, Lisa and all the others who have tried in the past will have been in vain - and that would be a total waste.

let's hope it continues.

There is absolutely no question that YI is here to stay; I don't know what suggests otherwise.

I think that he means that there have been at least four incarnations before, and all have failed.

Firstly Katy Davies, Farage's assistant, was put in charge of setting up YouthKIP (her idea for the name I think). Nothing happened for nearly a year, I believe.

Then the Lechlade Group took the initiative and set up YouthKIP in time for the 2006 Conference, but as discussed elsewhere, Farage deliberately squashed this because we "hadn't gone through the proper channels".

UKIP Youth was then formed through Alex McKee and someone else, and they were very badly treated over it (IIRC), so that folded as well.

Then Del was appointed to set up Young Independence, which also, as we know, has suffered some major public arguments resulting in Del being sacked and the mentors resigning in support (I think!).

So in answer to your question, there have so far been four attempts in three years. Lisa Duffy is apparently out to change everything, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to count this as the fifth. If ever there was a doomed organisation...

How can someone resign when they then say that they didn't? If there was some misunderstanding about what Del meant, then surely his clarification of "I did not resign" should clear up the matter? In the real world someone saying that his words were misinterpreted would be the end of it.

Did anyone say "are you sure that you want to quit?" No.
Did he provide a letter of resignation? No.

As I understand it, he uttered the words "I might as well resign then" (or something very much like that) and it was jumped upon as an opportunity to remove him. Given the disgraceful way Whittaker ambushed him in that meeting by bringing in a surprise presentation attacking Del, one might even suspect that the entire thing was engineered to get rid of Del.

Tony, the organisation I was working on with Jan Guest was Youthkip, not UKIP Youth.

That was the working title for a relaunched Youthkip which both myself and Katy Davies were supposed to be developing. By this time, Jan had withdrawn. Nothing ever happened because Katy never returned my calls and funding that was promised by her, supposedly on Farage's authorisation, never materialised.

Before Youthkip was disbanded because of the NEC passing a motion saying we were acting ultravires (IIRC that was the basis for why we were asked to shut down Youthkip), we had a branch in the University of Gloucestershire, and had done freshers fayres in 3 universities. We also had a website and we had posters/leaflets all done at my personal cost.

There have been even earlier attempts: Nikki Sinclaire ran it for a while, for example...

My apologies, so in fact this current version is the seventh incarnation (if Spon is correct) at least.

Then I'd suggest you don't know many young people, or your definition of 'young' is 50 or over.

I also know many people in the forces who'd oppose it. I'll take my freedom any day of the week thanks.
