Unless is it really a money issue, this seems an odd choice for a party entirely based in London. Could it be that he couldn't get the signatures? The rules are pretty stringent.
I wonder how much stronger UKIP would be now, had they not lost Hockney and Hulme-Cross.

Out of interest what is the strength of "One London"? Presumably "Veritas" has bitten the dust of is it still limping on under Patrck Easton?
I do agree with Hockney's views regarding the minor parties though, and he made some very relevant points about the media determining the agenda of the mayoral election, principally making it a Boris v Red Ken endgame. |

That's politics though, combined with a 'free' press. Complaining about it doesn't change it. Parties just have to work with the system or fade away.

This can only be good for UKIP. Just in terms of media exposure, it means we could possibly get some more minority party air time on the news. I mean why you would ever break away and form a party just based in London. Political suicide if you ask me.

This was a tiny story (without commentary) in the Evening Standard today as part of a 2 page spread about Boris & Livingstone. I guess they don't do irony.
I'm sure he could've got the signatures. I said a while ago here I would be willing to nominate Hockney (& Batten). I never received a private message from One Londoner or anyone connected with them. Myself alone could for all Hockney might've (wrongly) known got all 10 signatures for my borough. As they never asked in the first place I don't think that was the issue for them. Good thing is that there is now no doubt that Batten will get my first vote for Mayor. |

Strictly speaking, Roger Knapman was leader back then.
