I agree with Alex. His sexuality has no relevance to his job whatsoever.

What you shoud really look at is his performance as Chairman (poor IMHO) and then policy coordinator and Deputy Leader (pretty good so far, IMHO)

I wouldn't care less if DCB was gay...

It worries me that what one says to him gets to Farage in moments... Speak to DCB in confidence, and you share your secrets with Farage.

So is it UKIP Policy to only select MEP candidates from "locals"

This would probably fit into the extremely narrow parochial view of many UKIP Members but is actually a very short-sighted Policy that would restrict choice to one based upon accident of birth rather than on ability or what an individual could bring to the job. I think Yorkshire only used to allow native born Yorkshiremen to play cricket for the County but they now accept the need to be open to talent regardless of where it comes from. Of course if the other parties adopted such a policy then lots of Scots born Labour MP's would be out of a job and anyone born in the North who was a Tory would be doomed from the start.

As regards the "many" who regard DCB as a carpet bagger? I'm sure I could name one person in Eastern Region who will be briefing this way (at least behind the scenes), especially as he considers it his "right" as Titford's chosen successor (in his opinion) to automatically be top of that regional list!

Unfortunately so true! Homosexuality has been legal in Britain for the last 41 years, so there shouldn't be a problem! Being good at the job you were elected to do is more important than your sexual preference!

Sexual orientation like religion, gender or race should not be a factor it is or should be is the person capable and trustworthy

As much as I clashed continually with DCB while on the NEC, and found him somewhat lacking in integrity and backbone (i.e. he is a politician first and foremost) , he is hard working and competent. Neither of those virtues should be underestimated. What's more, he is normal looking, doesn't appear to hold any whacky views or conspiracy theories, isn't over retirement age and can manage himself in front of a camera.

Given some of the very limited alternatives open to UKIP, I would have thought that he would be a reasonable choice as an MEP.
It seems to me that if he is lacking in integrity the labour party would suit him down to the ground. I was under the opinion that UKIP wanted what is best for this country and to get that we must have people who positivelly ouse integrity.

You are right. He is not honest. He has told members in the East that he has not thought about standing for the Euros and yet tells others he will be. He should be honest about his intentions. Another Farage yes man is the last thing we need.

He then starts looking at the SW only because Knapman and Booth may stand down, plus there is more money in the SW for the Euros. Booth has also come into money and will no doubt help finance the campaign in the SW. The East on the other hand is short of cash.

Bannerman wants to get on the EU gravy train come what may. Before going after a seat he should start spending more time in the area or better still live and work there! Better still concentrate on Westminster and forget the Euros.
God knows why members what to be MEPs anyway. They have no power whatsoever. The only positive thing is the wage!

Agreed - GB should be excluded from the general criticism of MEPs.
