Clive Page:I appreciate that you in the Press Office do not always say in public, what you know. Most wise: that being the case, am I to assume that the investigation by the Beds Police was known to you? As an intelligent person, therefore, why did you seek clarification from me, by the most public of means? Not hindsight, good sir, prudent investigations about invitees by conference organisers, was what was required.
Finally , as a myopic tyro, it is gratifying that my mistakes are no greater in number than yours; and you are, as we all know, a professional journalist. Just put it all down to experience; you are nothing like Denny, at least not yet. |

The problem with such sober replies, Clive, is that it sucks all the fun out of the gossip.
![]() I note that Clive says: 'These rumours coming from the South West'. Interesting. What do we make of that? There, that has restored some of the fun.

Regarding Gabb I seem to have overlooked your comments about this prior to the meeting. Please remind me of them, thanks very much. His attendance was mentioned on this forum prior to the meeting so everyone on this forum had the opportunity at least to know about it in advance. Unless you really did comment on him prior to the meeting I don't think you who so recently sought election to the NEC can reasonably criticise everyone else for their failures on the matter. What do you suggest for the future? A CRB check wouldn't've picked up on his views. So should there therefore be a NEC decision that in future any non-UKIP member who is provisionally invited to attend/speak at a UKIP meeting should receive a comprehensive investigation into their personal history in order to pick up any unpleasantries? I think MI5 used to do that with regard to the BBC but so far as I know they don't do private sector work. I would not support such a thing. A quick internet check would not be sufficient and would not (my just having searched Sean Gabb at google) have picked up on some of his more controversial views. Your comprehensive solution to this will be most welcome to know, thanks again. |

Ha! On this forum ? ..... some hope! I have been trying to ameliorate with simple truthful explanations the more wildly ridiculous rumours / malicious rumblings here for a couple of years now with little successs. The malicious malcontents of UKIP and the 'other' parties trolls use this medium as a UKIP-bashing platform for their propaganda. There are, thank Goodness, some sensible peple here though who do ask sensible searching questions, seeking sensible debate, and they deserve reasonable truthful answers. The trolls are never satisfied unfortunately and debase the medium. Thanks for the interjection Clive - but don't be surprised if the clots come back with the same nonsense as before - even though you told them the real answers from the real world they are in their own cyber world of idiocy with tin ears and concrete for brains. Douglas. - |

The information you supply is welcome, Clive, but it's a pity it was not forthcoming earlier. In the absence of proper information there are bound to be rumours, and updates on the party website re the Sunday Times article would have reassured members and others that action is being taken. You now say, for instance, that a letter from Carter Ruck was sent "just as John Whittaker reported in the NEC minutes". Well, we are not privileged to see the NEC minutes, so we couldn't have known that. All JW's report on the website said was that NF said he had asked for a retraction which, as I pointed out, told us nothing. It's only what you describe as the more damaging posts here that have elicited - dragged out, even - some information, and it would have been so much better had it been supplied without the spur of unfounded rumour and forum members' 'ridiculous suggestions'. While you're feeling communicative perhaps you would answer my question to Bellatrix, who posted recently that "Nigel Farage has always stated quite clearly that his son was not employed by the party or anyone in it". I asked her where NF had stated this, as in the four references I quoted there was no mention of his son not having been employed by the party, but she has failed to give a source for her statement. Did she make it up? Has John Whittaker replied to the regional chairmen's e-mail re the ST article? What did he say? Lastly, you write that Tom Wise had the whip withdrawn because he was under investigation by OLAF, and the party would have been criticised had they not done so. But isn't Nigel Farage also under investigation by OLAF? Has he had the whip withdrawn? It would seem grossly unfair to withdraw it from one but not the other. Can you clarify, please? |

...but Douglas I thought you were the source of the 'more wildly ridiculous rumours/malicious rumblings'. How wrong could I have been?
