Default At Last UKIP Fighting Reform Treaty - Bristol 5 April 08

There is a conference at Bristol organised for Roger Knapman, on the 5 April to discuss a way forward.

To quote ”and therefore have arranged to co-ordinate their efforts, and to promote the activities of all inside and outside UKIP who are doing all they can to stop this disastrous Treaty passing through its Parliamentary stages and receiving the Royal Assent.”

I like the sound of this, but, one has to ask, why didn't Nigel do something on these lines six months ago?

It was a UKIP member who started the Parish Polls, and our guys idown n the Wet Country have been getting on with calling for a referendum in their own patch. Wherever there has been a cross-party referendum campaign or rally, UKIP has been there in force, but why have we not been in the forefront from day one?

I guess NF has had other things on his mind - like paying his wife, trying to find a way for his son to be paid by someone, and now, of course, there is the question of OLAF to give him food or thought. Maybe he has forgotten that he was elected as an MEP to lead the fight against the EU, rather than working out ways of milking the system for his own & his family's benefit.

We did much better under RK. Good that he is putting this event on. At least here is one senior figure in the party who has got his priorities right.

If you click on "news and views" ,it`s quite radical for a change ! MEPs for only one term, questioning the reasoning for being over in the EU Parl most of the time ,transparency of MEPs expenses ! Might almost be worth joining a party which subscribed to such views!

In no way am I running RK down, I think he's a very nice chap, doing a great job, but unfortunately he looks like a frightened Rabbit caught in the beam of a car's headlamps , when in front of a TV camera! You might think that's unimportant. Ask Tony Blair, he was PM for countless years because of his camera appeal! In my opinion our present leader has that appeal!

So he may have, but if the place he's leading you to is one of self-enrichment for MEPs rather than out of the place that's enriching them, then all his camera appeal is doing is working against what you thought you'd signed up to in the first place, isn't it?

Just noticed this - it is very good news. If I could have some confidence that UKIP wanted to change Britain's relationship with Europe, that this was its priority and the leadership were prepared to do whatever was necessary to achieve the goal - I too would wish to be part of the effort.

I would much prefer to be posting leaflets than sitting here complaining about the party's strategy.

What would you rather have the leader of the party doing? Running around the west country with a caravan culminating in a conference for the discontented former members or appearing on mainsteam media putting UKIP's view to millions of people at a time. Which do you think it more effective?

RK is ideal as a rallying point - if he is not comfortable in front of the TV cameras - then he can appoint spokesperson[s].
