Default NEC meeting of 4 February 2008 (from ukip.org)

UK Independence Party - NEC meeting of 4 February 2008

Quote:
NEC meeting of 4 February 2008
Saturday, 09 February 2008

Chairman’s report

Party membership
The chairman reported that Party membership is holding firm at 16,000 members, which is encouraging as this time of year normally sees a fall. New procedures are in place at Head Office for handling renewals, including telephoning where written invitations to renew do not bring a response.

Local by-elections
The UKIP candidate achieved 22 per cent of the vote in the recent Kennet District Council by-election.

Elections to the NEC
Independence magazine will be posted out during the second week of February with a separate envelope that contains voting slips and return envelopes. There are 14 candidates for the four vacancies.

Policy development
The Policy Group has now approved the Fishing and Energy policies. Defence Policy is undergoing minor revisions. The chairman thanked David Bannerman and all members of the various policy groups for their work.

UKIP conference
It was confirmed that the UKIP conference will be held on 5th and 6th September 2008 in Bournemouth. All administrative matters are being handled by the Christchurch branch but the programme will be formulated by the Party leadership.

Treasurer’s report

On behalf of the finance committee, Martin Haslam advised that the party’s cash position is satisfactory. Treasurer Marta Andreasen reported on her progress with the party’s procedures for ensuring compliance.

Regional committees

The final version of the rules governing regional committees was approved. The new rules were designed in particular to clarify the composition of the committees and their role outside euro-election periods. The NEC approved requests from North West, Eastern and West Midlands regions for some of their counties to have more than one representative, according to paragraph 3.2.

NEC meetings

In order to improve communication, the NEC approved a proposal that its meetings should take place in different parts of the country, with the opportunity for local branch officers and candidates to meet NEC members informally after meetings.

This proposal will be implemented immediately with the next NEC meeting to be on Friday 7 March 2008 in Exeter. An NEC meeting later in the year will be held in Birmingham.

John Whittaker
Chairman
8 February 2008
People here, yet again, seem to love the gossip and ignore the substance.

Not yet. When I see some evidence UKIP are serious about being a real party, not just an anti-EU protest group, then I might reconsider.

And when I say evidence, I mean in the way the party interacts with the public. Leaflets, meetings, adverts, etc.

Ask yourself why they are messing about with the regional committees don't suppose its got anything to do with Mike Natrress nearly getting a vote of no confidence by the West Midlands committee which now will be selected by different areas within the West Midlands.
Strange one of my local members who has never been to one of my meetings has become the chairwoman of a committee in a constituency 20 odd miles away don't suppose its got anything to do with her being a good friend of Mikes then being available to the newly formed West Midlands Committee.

Item noting a good by election result , ignores the string of bad results and says nothing about any strategy for by elections of locals in general.

Or could it be that she was the parliamentary candidate there who got one of the best results in the West Mids for UKIP and saved her deposit. And she is the PPC there again and a local election candidate????

At what stage are the preparations for Tom Wise MEP, to be the subject of
disciplinary deliberations? Wouldn't it be wise for this matter to be given some priority, rather than allow it to continue indefinitely into, 'election time'? Are there unexpected impediments causing the delays, or is it more a matter of accommodating competing considerations?

No doubt the March NEC could find the subject on their Agenda.

Please Nikki can you tell me why she has NEVER attended one of her own local meetings.(true ukip commitment)

Bloody hell its hard enough to get local people to these meetings but hey when someone is in Mikes pay i suppose they will travel miles to a UKIP meeting.
