Yes, as I have written before, the EU will fall apart and end up on the scrapheap of history - just as the following did:

Soviet Union (USSR)
Comecom (USSR equivalent of EEC/EU)
Warsaw Pact (USSR equivalent of NATO)
League of Nations (predecessor to the United Nations)
Czechoslovakia
Yugoslavia
'East' Germany
United Arab Republic
Malaysia-Singapore Federation
Rhodesia Federation (now Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi)

and many more.

Why was the thread discussing the wisdom of the Archbishops speech removed? Some of the comments were impolite; was that the reason?

The above reply was inavertently posted due to my computer being somewhat delinquent by nature.

Concerning the debate about empires and political associations collapsing, certainly that will happen before too long. Whether the EU will collapse before or after the United Kingdom remains to be seen. George Sorras (I think that is how he spells his name) predicts that the most severe economic crises since the pre-war days, is looming. I can manage economic depressions, it is the excitement generated by commercial opulence which I find so vulgar. In last last sixty years, debt has replaced poverty as a major mechanism of social control. The 'bills' are coming in, at the same time China and India are seeking to control the world commodity markets. The EU will increasingly appear a very parochial market and we should get out.

Peter Mandelson is, seemingly, being lobbied to impose import tariffs on all sorts of goods, when it is no longer possible to crack the European market from the outside, we shall see if, as the government would have us believe, we do most of our trading with the EU.
