UKIP YI is organising a trip to Strasbourg with Mike Nattrass MEP in the spring of 2008.
We are flying out on Tuesday 11th March and flying back on Thursday 13th March. The actual parliament visit is on the Wednesday. After the tour of the Parliament in Strasbourg, we will all be entitled to an MEP subsidy of roughly 270 Euros.

A number of us will be flying from London Stanstead to Karlsruhe-Baden and then getting a private mini bus onto Strasbourg.

For accomodation, we will be staying at a youth hostel in Strasbourg.

If you book your flight soon, you can get them at a value price of £35

If interested, please contact me at wayneanthonyharling@hotmail.co.uk

What is the point of this? Or is it just a taxpayer funded jolly?

What value does that add?

Why are you giving that joke of an institution the time of day? It's bad enough we have MEPs wasting years in that shithole. Why are we sending even more people over, wasting taxpayers cash and giving it the time of day?

Are you going to do something to disrupt it? To make it look bad? To expose it?

Or is this just the MEPs throwing around money, to buy loyalty?

Please tell me there is a good reason for blowing money on this.

A good reason for going could be to have a first hand experience of how much of a joke the place is. Upon returning, those who attended can draw upon their experience to debate against EU membership more competently. An exercise aimed at sharpening the foot-soldiers metaphorical spear, if you like.

Not something that I shall be attending, as my term doesn't finish until the 14th.

Sounds like a laugh. The food in the Parliament restaurant is excellent especially, of course, the foie gras.

I recall a few of these Euro-jollies with the Young Conservatives years ago. One climaxed with a official raid on the room of a constituency chairman. We found him in bed with one under-age girl while another one was skulking under the bed.

Another one was attended by a glamorous thirty-something blonde who turned many heads. It transpired she was a guy in drag who had previously featured in the News of the World.

A harmless fun visit as long as YI doesnt rapidly go native like MEPs and prefer the glamour of "fraternal visits" overseas instead of building blocks of message and memebr penetration of colleges in UK.

I hardly think there is any risk of YI 'going native'! I went on a trip to the Strasbourg 'parliament' a couple of years ago and it scared the **** out of me. Just watching the MEPs rise to speak for their allotted time and spout complete nonsense is a sight to behold. Well worth going. It certainly keep sme motivatd!

Taxpayer Jolly it is then.

The final straw for me I think. This isn't why I joined UKIP.

I am not quite sure I follow your logic. It is only partly subsidised by the taxpayer, you have to shell out for it as well. I also think it is very worthwhile to see what we are up against. Actually standing inside the building just makes it so clear that it was always intended to be a superstate.

The fact that UKIP is trying to get people interested in the issue and make them aware of what is going on, whether that be new supporters or a enrgising existing supporters, is a good thing.

It isn't a nice little excursion. If I wasn't interested in the EU then I have many better things to spend my money on.
