Gordon Brown today heralded the disappearance of Britain as an international force when he informed MPs how Britain will simply be doing everything the European Union tells us to do.
In a statement to the Commons defending his signing of the Lisbon Treaty, the Prime Minister described how the EU is determining policy on foreign affairs, the economy, the environment and defence.

The leader of the UK Independence Party, Nigel Farage, said Mr Brown’s refusal to admit that he has signed Britain up to the rejected EU Constitution and the Charter of Fundamental Rights was "sickeningly dishonest."

He said the statement was "an abject display of sheer bloody-mindedness by a Prime Minister too scared of the people” to let them have their say.

"Practically every sentence Mr Brown spoke in Parliament today contained the words 'The European Union have agreed' or 'The European Council say'. Nowhere did he say what Britain intended.

"It was a graphic demonstration of just how much of our independence this discredited Prime Minister has given away to Europe.

"This is a bleak day for Britain, the day that the Prime Minister demonstrated that he is little more than an errand boy for Brussels.

"Our independence has disappeared quicker than data from a government department."
