I made what I considered a reasonable explanation for allowing prison visitors free parking. No exaggerated language, no swear words. It was, however, removed after about an hour. What offence had I committed, what sensitivities had been hurt?

Sometimes the relative has not even done anything worthy of prison or has not even committed a crime at all - our justice system is not infallible. I agree, we should not punish the relatives of criminals for what their family members do.

If we did, the logic should be that we should imprison sons for the acts of their fathers.

I agree with you. The argument seems to have moved to the assumption that prison visitors should/should not be charged for parking when it is very clear that the original article I posted here is that hospital visitors should not be charged for hospital parking, but if the decision of the 'state' is that they must be charged then prison visitors should also be charged. I'd prefer neither was charged.

All things fancifully being equal, and as the NHS and Prison Service are both centrally funded, NHS patients and visitors paying for parking must be subsidising prison visitors who do not pay for parking, unless I am completely mistaken about that.

That annoys me too. The first time I visited a hospital in ages and it was dark and I drove straight through their automated barrier and snapped it in two. It annoyed me only because it cracked my front headlight.

The motorist is seen as a cash cow to be exploited - I'm amazed that prison visitors aren't already charged along with every other motorist

The only ones who don't pay are the politicians and their mates they put in charge the taxpayer pays their bills as bl00dy usual
