Matt I think I know what you mean, the kind of altruistic society which helps the most vulnerable out of a sense of personal and civic duty. I must say I have never personally helped anyone out of their cardboard box but no doubt it would do me good.

If this is what you are talking about then you need to find the language to get it across.

Well spotted, Mark, you should have been a detective. It would be equally true (and equally fatuous) to say that One London has never lost an election.

What matters is how many votes we get at the next election. Our aim is to improve on the 156,000 (8.2%) who voted UKIP in the 2004 Assembly election.

Will you be standing ? Couldn't you cut a deal with UKIP ?

Or shall we fight among ourselves and get nowhere ?
I know what the Lib Dems and Labour want us to.

John, this has come up on previous threads. As I said then:
Quote:
It seems unlikely that any of the above anti-EU parties [ie. UKIP, ED, One London] would agree to run a joint campaign for the London mayoral/assembly election at this stage, as they are coming at the election from completely different angles. However, if one of these parties establishes a clear lead over the others in the run-up to the election maybe the others may take a rational decision not to contest the election and to recommend their supporters back the front-runner. This would conserve their resources for general/EU parliament elections. Or is that too sensible an idea?

As an ex member of UKIP who knew and had worked with the principals of One London, I contacted them some months ago about having an informal chat with the English Democrats. They didn't appear to be interested at that stage.

What sort of deal would UKIP cut with None London? The same as in 2004? UKIP pays, and None London (formerly Vanitas) leaves as soon as they are elected?

While UKIP may struggle to equal the successes of 2004, None London has no chance at all of even saving their deposits. This is why they've been trying to get back in for several years.

UKIP would be mad to touch them with a bargepole. Their electoral impact on the UKIP vote will be negligable. They are simply a legend in their own mind.

Thanks, SponPlague, for this useful information.

Not good news for the europhile George Galloway MP that there has been a split among his own side. It must reduce the chances that either of the above will win one of the proportionally-elected seats in next May's London Assembly elections.

Leftist europhiles allegedly squabbling can only be good news for UKIP .

By standing against UKIP in the next London Assembly elections you (OneLondon) may actually end up - on a possibly very small vote - splitting the much larger UKIP vote causing UKIP to fail to hold on to even just one of the two seats UKIP won on the London Assembly on 10.6.2004. This would mean the people of London would have no UKIP or One London Assembly members to speak for them.

I urge your party (which, of course, is anti-EU and pro-sovereignty like UKIP) to consider approaching the UKIP leadership urgently with a view to discussing finding a way to avoid the pro-sovereignty parties (including One London) splitting the pro-sovereignty vote (in the May 2008 London Mayoral/Assembly elections).

The English Democrats and Veritas could also be involved in such talks.

I know that One London does not want to split the pro-sovereignty vote and I look forward to hearing that the One London leadership are talking to UKIP with a view to establishing a joint list of candidates for the London Assembly proportional vote next May and a single candidate (backed by UKIP/One London/English Democrats) for the 2008 ondon Mayoral election.

Exactly. Brown's Lie-bour and the europhile Liberal Dims are keeping their fingers crossed that UKIP/English Democrats/One London/Veritas all put up candidates against each other in the next London Assembly elections and that all four pro-sovereignty parties named by me put up their own candidates for London Mayor.

Labour only held on to power at the last General Election (with the support of just 21.5% of the those entitled to vote) because of a divided opposition.

Labour will be hoping to do the same again in the next London elections (in May 2008) and Labour needs the eurosceptic and anti-EU vote to splinter.
