Britannist tapped out;
'It is what they used to say about the Labour Party in the first couple of decades of its existence and it is what they used to say about Dr. Paisley's DUP which now holds half the constituencies in Northern Ireland and which is in 'the driving seat' in the Northern Ireland Assembly.' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Another reason for UKIP to maintain the United Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland as a main Policy. Just imagine how isolated NI would feel if UKIP concentrated on England only. Martin Harvey. |

And it does so - the UKIP policy on devolution is a good one (i.e. closure of the rival Parliament in Edinburgh and of the Welsh Assembly with their duties transferred to Scottish/Welsh MPs who would meet in Scotland/Wales to handle domestic matters with English constituency MPs concentrating on purely English issues before the Commons during their absence). The "English Question" has to be addressed fairly and quickly - or those of us who are UK Unionists (me included) could find that support in England for England quitting the UK will rise rapidly (already over 17 million people in England want this to happen according to a recent opinion poll). England must have equality with Scotland in the Union of the UK. The UKIP policy on devolution provides for that and creates a direct link between the devolved legislatures and national UK MPs (i.e. MPs would be members of both the devolved bodies and of the Commons). |
