Default UKIP on 2% in new opinion poll despite getting no publicity for ages

UKIP have a national vote share of 2% says a Channel Four television poll published today.

One recent poll claimed UKIP had a zero rating.

2% for UKIP is not bad considering that the party has had no national publicity for ages and that many voters have not had a leaflet from UKIP since the last General Election (in May 2005) and some not since the last EU Election in 2004.

UKIP got just over 2% of the national (UK) vote at the last General Election.

However, a 2% national vote share for UKIP in a UK-wide opinion poll almost certainly means that the party is actually doing better than that in England - and better still in the south-west of England and in the traditionally eurosceptic and anti-EU English midlands.

Details of the poll can be found at:

Default UKIP, vote, opinion poll

Discussion of the UKIP share of the vote in the latest opinion poll has been taking place at (please click on the following link and see posting numbers 11 - 13 and possibly other postings after those):

"Conservatives on biggest lead for 15 years in new poll - Lib Dims rise by only 1%"

UKIP have more MEP's than all these parties yet they are falling behind them in polls. Also you could say being behind BNP is bad as not a lot of people will say they will vote for them because of the fear of being called racist etc...

Yeh bad for UKIP good for Greens and BNP.

However in By-elections Greens dont seem to be achieving much.

One of the major failures of UKIP strategy in the face of BNP nearly consistently doing better than UKIP in post 2005 elections and polling much higher than UKIP amongst younger voters is to ignore BNP and treat all parties just the same instead of having a message trageted at voters of each. In the case of BNP this means explaining to the voter why they dont have to vote BNP in frustration to get their concerns heard ( ignored by other parties ) and explain what UKIP will do /is doing to represent these and actively challenge what is going on under New Labour , and has the answers in a non racial context that meets legitimate indigenous concerns . Most BNP voters arn't racists. New Labour is cynically actively P.C. racist in giving special favours to selected vote influential ethnic minorities and refusing such priveleges and actively marginalising/discriminating against ethnic groups without perxceived vote significance. ( eg "black only" short lists to exclude under represented non black ethnic minorities) . UKIP with its strong ethical position could run rings round New Labour on this one , and remove much of the BNP threat to any increase in future votes for UKIP.

Interesting that the party of europhile leftist George Galloway MP ('Respect') is not doing well.

I had thought that 'Respect' might be in with a chance of taking one of the all-London (proportionally-elected) seats in next May's London Assembly election, but now I am not so sure.

Of course, a zero rating for any small party in an opinion poll does not mean that that party won't pile up the votes in one particular area/locality despite getting 'zero' nationally (in a poll).

Default Greens, Labour, Liberal Dims, pro-EU Greens, General Election, poll

The Greens are about to be 'squeezed' - there is nowhere else that Labour and the europhile Liberal Dims (both doing badly in the opinion polls - including the one out today) can get the extra votes from they need to in order to recover electorally (apart from a few votes from other parties).

There is no way the pro-EU Greens are going to get 3% of the national vote at the next General Election whatever this opinion poll out today suggests.

There is now a good chance the Liberal Dims will try to get votes from the Greens but lose many others to Labour (as anti-Iraq 'war' protest voters return to their former Labour 'home').

"Respect" has now split into 2 separate parties.
One supporting Galloway and the other the SWP.
I believe the SWP faction has the rights to the name.
I am surprised there is no active islamist party as yet. I am pretty sure they could get some Westminster seats.
