Once again UKIP proved it is the only major party in the UK that is not afraid to confront directly the tough issues that face our country.

Party leader Nigel Farage spoke of his disgust at the Government’s dishonesty over the issue of immigration and the numbers coming into the UK. He said that the Government knew that large numbers would come to the UK and deliberately set out to mislead the electorate.

Mr Farage accused the Conservative Party of duplicity over immigration. He said that one the one hand, the Tory MEP for the Eastern Region, Geoffrey Van Orden, had spent several years working directly for the European Commission as a rapporteur, hastening the entrance of Bulgaria into the European Union. This would result in the free movement of people to the UK from a country whose average salary is £30 a month. Yet on the other hand, Mr Van Orden was complaining in the UK press that immigration is out of control and that something needs to be done about it.

Other speakers included David Campbell Bannerman, UKIP Deputy Leader and Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Suffolk South; Jeffrey Titford MEP; Gerard Batten MEP, chairman of UKIP’s Immigration Policy Group; Mike Nattrass MEP; John West; PPC for North Ipswich & Suffolk Central; Delroy Young, UKIP Youth and NEC member; Alison West, Suffolk Coastal’s PPC, and Guy Herbert, General Secretary of NO2ID and Conservative Party member.

Twenty of UKIP’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidates were present and were introduced by Jeffrey Titford, MEP for the Eastern Counties.

A members-only question and answer session was held during the morning, in which there was a no-holds-barred interrogation of the panel on a broad spectrum of issues. The afternoon session was open to the public and was very popular.

UKIP plans to hold further conferences highlighting other areas of the party’s broad range of policies, which are focused on the theme of British independence.

250 attended the conference. Some stayed all day, some left after the members only section. John West, Conference Organiser.
